Job Overview
The 'Systems Controls Mechanic' will plan and perform a variety of complex technical, functional, and operational tests for use in production process systems. Reviews specifications, drawings, manuals, or related data to become familiar with functional characteristics and requirements of pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, or environmental systems required in process systems. This is an internal position for current NSS UAW UNION employees.
- 2nd Shift UAW Union position in LA at Michoud Assembly Facility.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Analyzes data and recommends modifications to equipment, techniques, or procedures to improve reliability and function.
- Conducts major performance tests of equipment systems, components, and controls
- Directs the set up of necessary equipment to calibrate and troubleshoot major system malfunctions and determines and performs appropriate corrective action.
- Refers problems requiring further investigation and possible redesign to engineers or supervisors.
- Coordinates the collection and maintenance of test data and prepares reports as required, specifying the nature and results of tests conducted.
- Investigates a variety of complex system problems and coordinates its solution.
- Determines the compatibility of instruments tested relative to specifications to assure validity of acceptance or rejection.
- Assigns and directs work of lower graded employees in accordance with complexity involved.
- Use your detailed knowledge of events, day to day problems, and opportunities and how things are actually done to implement ideas that:
- (1) Advance safety.
- (2) Make the job easier.
- (3) Improve performance.
- (4) Enhance the customer's experience.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
- Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal) and/or Social Security card, Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if these documents are not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
- Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
- Must have, and maintain, a valid Real ID driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
- Requires a broad knowledge of electrical/electronic, mechanics, hydraulics, and pneumatics fundamental principles as applied to testing and checking our industrial control systems.
- Requires minimum of 5 years identical or related experience.
- Must have regular attendance with established work schedule, ability to work outside normal schedule, and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications where such certifications are a requirement of the job.
- Grooming and attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
Physical Requirements:
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods.
- Must have sufficient mobility to work in cramped or awkward positions where necessary.
- Sustained visual and mental attention is necessary when making tests and a high degree of manual dexterity is required when operating equipment and testing the components and systems of the control devices.
- Walk six hours per day.
- Bend and stoop six hours per day.
- Work overhead with minimum 20 pound load.
- Push and pull frequently throughout the day.
- Walk up/down stairs frequently.
- Climb ladders and scaffolding.
- Wear PPE gear six hours continuously when needed (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves).
- Tolerate extreme cold/heat for three hours continuously.
