Position Summary
The Lead Data Scientist has ownership for building and leading our data science function to improve data-driven decision-making across the organization. The Lead Data Scientist is the business subject matter expert for data gathering and intelligence across the Healthcare business units to uncover insights, develop sophisticated predictive models, and provide actionable recommendations that enhance business performance. The Lead Data Scientist will work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver innovative solutions using advanced analytics, machine learning techniques, and statistical methods. The Lead Data Scientist will design and implement data models, conduct thorough data analysis, and interpret complex data sets to identify trends and patterns. The data-driven decisions will directly contribute to strategic initiatives and ensure a strong focus on business impact. In addition to delivering advanced analytics, The Lead Data Scientist will oversee Healthcare's data asset management to ensure data quality, integration, and accessibility across the organization in alignment with Corporate IT's guardrails. The Lead Data Scientist will define and lead strategic initiatives, drive Healthcare's data strategy and scale the data science function to deliver long-term value.
The Lead Data Scientist will play a crucial role in building and promoting a data-driven culture within the organization across STERIS Healthcare. Leverage extensive experience and knowledge of industry-standard methodologies, educate and develop the team of data scientists. This includes mentoring team members on best practices in data science and analytics and providing expert guidance on the design and implementation of technology frameworks, programs, policies, and procedures. The Lead Data Scientist will provide leadership and develop a team of junior data scientists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Building and maintaining trusted relationships with Healthcare's business units will be crucial, as will making frequent internal presentations to communicate your findings and recommendations effectively. This position sits within the Healthcare analytics team and will provide the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of professionals and contribute to high-impact projects that drive the company's success.

What You'll Do as a Lead Data Scientist
Deliver Advanced Analytics Solutions (60%)
- Define, develop and implement advanced analytics and machine learning models to solve high-impact business problems, ensuring scalability and alignment with strategic goals.
- Drives engagement with senior business stakeholders to identify opportunities for advanced analytics, prioritizing use cases with the highest business value.
- Collaborates with external vendor partners to identify external data sources to support data-driven solutions.
- Analyzes datasets using Snowflake or Databricks to uncover insights and trends that inform and drive strategic decisions.
- Utilize Databricks for end-to-end data science workflows, including model deployment at scale, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Communicates findings and recommendations to executive and non-technical stakeholders through impactful visualizations, dashboards, or presentations, connecting insights to strategic outcomes.
- Manage efforts to continuously monitor and refine business-unit-wide models, ensuring alignment with evolving organizational needs.
- Oversees work progress using Azure DevOps, providing guidance to team members and ensuring the successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
- Participates in project governance, representing the data science function in high-level strategy discussions.
- Lead Corporate IT to identify relevant data sources for model development and deployment and enhance model outcomes by continuously making recommendations to improve data sources and quality.

- Defines and oversees data quality frameworks, ensuring enterprise-level data integrity and accessibility for analytics and operational use.
- Develops and maintains Healthcare data models to support cross-functional analytics initiatives.
- Identifies opportunities to integrate external data sources and enhance existing assets, increasing their strategic value.
- Create, writes and reviews functional specifications and design documentation for workflows, architectures, and business rules, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

- Drives the organization's data strategy, championing the use of advanced analytics and machine learning to create competitive advantages.

- Provide leadership and expert guidance on technology frameworks, programs, and policies to ensure alignment with organizational goals and within the Corporate IT guardrails.

- Establishes best practices for data science workflows, creating reusable frameworks and artifacts to drive consistency and scalability.
- Establishes department performance standards and metrics.

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Required:
- Bachelor's degree + 10 or more years of overall technical and/or statistical analysis experience
- 6 or more years of experience with SQL coding and the ability to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets
- 4 or more years of experience with predictive modeling and machine learning
- 4 or more years of experience working with complex data using advanced analytics techniques and software technologies
- 4 or more years of experience using Python, R, Databricks, Jupyter notebooks
- 4 or more years of experience with data modeling & data architecture.
- Experience working effectively in a team-based environment

- Experience with big data analysis tools and techniques, including the use of platforms like Databricks and Snowflake, and guiding the team in their effective use.
- Expertise in building and deploying predictive models and scalable data pipelines, ensuring robust and efficient data processing, and overseeing the team's work in these areas.
- Up-to-date knowledge of machine learning and data analytics tools and techniques, including familiarity with the latest advancements in the field, and leading the team in adopting these innovations.

- Experience with Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, and BI systems, including extensive experience in collecting business requirements from Customers and transforming these requirements into actionable analytics projects, and guiding the team in these processes.
- Proficiency with reporting tools such as Cognos, Tableau, SSIS, and SSRS, for creating and delivering insightful reports and dashboards, and mentoring the team in their use.
- Expert knowledge of relational SQL databases and SQL, including experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL, and leading the team in database management.
- Proficient with iterative development, CI/CD pipelines, GIT or similar code versioning software and continuous integration for scalable solutions.
- Knowledge of data governance, data classification, and protection, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and best practices, and overseeing the team's adherence to these standards.
- Ability to write functional specifications for data-related processes, workflows, architectures, business rules, and interfaces, and create design specification documents in consultation with Customers, and guiding the team in these tasks.
- Experience participating in project governance for Data and Analytics projects, working closely with Project Managers to ensure successful implementation, and leading the team in these efforts.
- Skill in defining uniform data processes and approaches, promoting collaboration between data science groups within the organization and providing frameworks to reuse artifacts, and leading the team in these initiatives.

Pay range for this opportunity is$105,400.00-$136,400.00.This position is eligible forbonus participation. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.
