Perform physically demanding manufacturing duties including repetitive processes, moderate to heavy lifting, the use of machinery and following standardized work procedures at workstation or line assembly operations to mass-produce bus components or to assemble those components into a completed bus. Welder- Utility employees can perform tasks conducted by a specified area in a department or designated department. They participate in the assembly process and can rotate through all or most of them, rather than being assigned to a specific task on a permanent basis.

- Help production workers by performing duties when necessary
- Use hand tools, adhesive dispensing equipment, forming machines, fixtures and/or end effectors to complete mechanical, electrical and structural assemblies and sub-assemblies on buses.
- Install and assemble components for buses, use computer systems to access company data associated with assembly process, utilize drawings, bills of materials and specification sheets in both electronic and hard copy
- Complete tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimum supervision
- Work in a LEAN manufacturing environment and employ continuous improvement daily.
- Kitting of products, material and supplies
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
- Check specifications of materials loaded or unloaded against information contained in work orders.
- Inform designated employees or departments of loaded items, and problems encountered.
- Inventory supplies, and requisition or purchase additional items as necessary.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
- Inform designated employees or departments of loaded items, and problems encountered.

- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- The ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving one arm or while holding one arm and hand in one position.
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
- Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
- Associate's degree in related field
- Some vocational training or job-related course work is preferred
- Certified Welder Diploma a plus
- Current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
