Job Description
Position Purpose

Provides overall control of project support and routine freight shipments.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Schedules shipment activities by coordinating outbound/inbound and Direct shipments both routine and project support in a manner which effectively uses resources and time

* Selects correct carrier and mode of shipment based on required delivery date, service, and cost

* Prepares proper documentation for Dangerous Goods Shipments

* Performs invoice processing, data entry, and other traffic management related tasks in support of section operations

* Prepares and consolidates a variety of transportation statistical reports

* Provides transportability analysis and load planning for project support shipments and acts as the transportation representative on high visibility moves

* Submits Special Assignment Airlift Mission (SAAM) requests to the Air Force for project support shipments

* Compiles transportation statistical data and prepares written reports, correspondence, and memoranda in a timely manner

* Develops Transportation requirements to meet Project and institutional customer initiatives and schedules

* Participates in project support initiatives as directed by the Branch Head

* Develops and produces charts and graphs to support shipping reports, briefings, and other written material

* Completes transportation documentation on domestic and international shipments in a format that meets carrier requirements and Traffic Management procedures

* Sends documents to export control and monitors progress of shipping approvals

* Arranges the import and clearance on returned GSFC equipment, or shipments arriving without prior notification

* Contacts customers to inform them the shipment has arrived and is clearing customs and obtains WBS information to complete customs clearance process

* Initiates all claim actions on damaged freight

* Processes all freight invoices for payment through the NASA Automated system at NSSC. Ensures invoices are processed for payment in the required amount of time. Reports discrepancies back to the NSSC

* Processes and monitors invoices from the Small Package office in the mail room

* Maintains carrier tenders/tariffs and public file

* Maintains export files, shipment files, and invoice files

* Inputs data and maintains automated records on shipments, processed invoices, and costs. Computes freight charges to ensure accurate payment is made for commercial carrier services

* Establishes, maintains, and updates the Traffic Management files daily as required

* Works with customers to ensure traffic management receives all required documents completed correctly and in accordance with the correct shipping processes

* Answers telephone and routes callers to proper functional area or takes and relays messages to appropriate personnel

* Requisitions equipment, office supplies, and transportation regulations utilized by the section

* Provides coverage in other areas of the section as required

* Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications

* Four years of progressively responsible experience in a position providing broad-based Traffic Management support

* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

* Intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Word) are required

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Highly developed analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is a top priority

* Must share a commitment to maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment while simultaneously optimizing individual performance and contribution

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment

* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements

* Must be a U.S. Citizen

* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions

* Must be able to successfully complete a background screening

* Must possess or be able to obtain a public trust clearance prior to employment and maintain public trust clearance for the duration of employment

Rate of Pay/Benefits

Hourly Rate: $29.36

*If designated as the Lead, an increase of $1.00 per hour worked will be added.
