Position summary: Responsible for leading the engineering design for tasks or sub-tasks in a specialized discipline by using basic project management and advanced knowledge of general engineering principles. Coordinates with design and other project engineers to efficiently complete project goals delivered on schedule, budget, and of quality.

Compensation for this position is $55-$65/hourly, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Supporting overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for respective discipline, including, developing hours estimates, scope, etc.
  • Provide design status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Track the budgets of discipline task(s).
  • Oversee sub-tasks within their respective discipline for a project.
  • Executing quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for project.
  • Coaching/mentoring design staff through the design process.
  • Provide consultative services to the client(s), including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and appropriate solutions to meet their expectations.
  • Collaborate and manage project sub-consultants and other internal disciplines.
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
  • Responsible for management and oversight of geotechnical investigations
  • Development and implementation of subsurface investigation programs consisting of test borings, cone penetrometer, dilatometer and geophysical surveys
  • Perform engineering analysis of soils and rock, for design of shallow and deep foundation systems, slope stability, excavations, permanent and temporary retaining systems, dewatering systems and soil improvement.
  • Preparation of geotechnical reports and memoranda.
  • Preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Responsible for responses to requests for qualifications and proposals
  • Assist in marketing efforts for growth and development of the geotechnical engineering practice
  • Conduct and manage on-site geotechnical inspection and engineering services during construction.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure alignment and project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
  • Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department

Required Experience

  • MS degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • 5 to 10+ years geotechnical engineering experience including analysis, report writing, and proposal preparation required
  • Proficient in discipline specific design software
  • Perform field assignments which include, but are not limited to, walking and climbing through areas that have steep slopes or other natural obstacles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and communication skills
  • Presentation skills


Qualifications preferred:



  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
  • Professional Engineer License


Working Conditions:

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
