EHS Specialist

Huntsman is seeking a EHS Specialist supporting the EHS Division located in McIntosh, Alabama. This position will report to the EHS Manager.

Job Scope

Maintain compliance requirements of OSHA's occupational safety programs, including industrial hygiene. Serves as the Security leader for the site. The EHS Specialist will provide secondary support for the site's Process Safety efforts.

In summary, as the EHS Specialist, you will:

  • Lead and improve site's occupational safety, emergency response, and industrial hygiene programs
  • Own and maintain site's occupational safety, emergency response, and industrial hygiene procedures
  • Maintain safety records (confined space permits, hot work permits, safety training, etc.)
  • Manage the site's EHS self-audit process
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the site's medical surveillance program
  • Serve as site's primary Radiation Safety Officer
  • Conduct new employee training/testing and periodic face-to-face training of current employees
  • Leads EHS contractor engagement sessions
  • Enhances current safety training programs
  • Supervises the facility security officers and ensures compliance with site Security standards
  • Serves as a site Zero Harm Champion
  • Ability to serve as the scheduled EHS duty representative
  • Safety, Environmental, plant hygiene activities as assigned
  • Other projects and duties, as assigned

Other general responsibilities

  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical or a Scientific Field with 3+ years of related experience
  • Or a Minimum 10 years in a safety role. Experience in batch chemical operations is a plus.

Skills and knowledge

  • Must have a good level of understanding of applicable federal regulations and Huntsman EHS procedures
  • Must be able to lead teams and facilitate efficient team meetings
  • Selected candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be capable of making group presentations as well as the individual skills to effectively interface with management, production operators and professional people in H/S/E, manufacturing and outside agencies.
  • Experience with conducting safety training programs is desired.
  • Selected candidate must be available 24/7 to respond to emergencies and walk and climb stairs as needed to interact within the Plant on a daily basis.
  • Selected candidate will have strong PC skills and be comfortable utilizing Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other required software.
  • Selected candidate must have demonstrable experience as a self-starter that can perform and complete their duties with minimal supervision and set and achieve challenging goals and perform problem solving that leads to solutions that deliver success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success.
  • CSP, ASP, CIH, RSO or relevant professional certification valued
