What you'll be doing...

You will be a subject matter expert who provides technical expertise on the Spectrum Strategy and RAN Capacity Planning. This position will focus on Verizon's spectrum and capacity plans long term and provide guidance as a technical SME for Verizon RAN Planning.

  • Serving as a subject matter expert and technical lead for Verizon RAN Planning.

  • Completing detailed analysis and recommendations for Verizon's RAN including 5G and 6G, Spectrum Management decisions, and regulatory framework decisions.

  • Performing radio wave propagation, signal loss models, interference analysis, and the ability to perform detailed link budget calculations for various radio technologies and deployment scenarios.

  • Interpreting and analyzing FCC rules, regulations, and public notices related to spectrum and engaging with regulatory bodies and understanding the policy-making process.

  • Interfacing with internal teams such as device, network planning, territory, planning, and the field to develop and distribute guidance to national market teams.

  • Forecasting device and network utilization trends and how those trends impacts RAN capacity.

  • Conducting long-term spectrum planning analysis and with alignment to Verizon's business objectives and customer experience.

  • Staying abreast of key industry trends, such as the evolution of mobile technologies, the increasing demand for data, the growth of IoT and private networks, and new spectrum sharing techniques, is critical for proactive spectrum planning.

  • Developing guidance on how to properly gauge network capacity year over year while accounting for technology improvements in the 3GPP specifications that requires one to understand the device makeup of the Verizon network, RF coverage and link budgets, Verizon's capacity and triggering sector methodologies in VPI, and the customer experience.

  • Conducting analytics and automation that will enable consistent, accurate, and actionable guidance/modeling to be provided to various business units across the company.

  • Being able to conduct Geospatial analysis that will often be required as the solutions that are being evaluated regularly spanning large geographic areas and having attributes that are specific to certain locations.

  • Analyzing major network infrastructure decisions for the company for Radio Access Planning.

**This position can be located in any valid US based Verizon network location**

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Proficiency in RF Propagation Modeling Tools.

  • Experience in RAN Capacity Planning and RF Fundamentals.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A Masters Degree or PHD degree in STEM.

  • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging radio access technologies (e.g., LTE, 5G NR, future generations), radio hardware characteristics, and their impact on network performance and spectrum utilization.

  • Ability to build cross-functional partnerships at multiple levels within the company.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively. convey technical information to diverse audiences, including regulatory bodies, legal counsel, business leaders, and technical teams.

  • A comprehensive grasp of spectrum allocation, licensing, and regulatory frameworks, including knowledge of domestic (FCC) and potentially international spectrum policies.

  • A strong understanding of 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) standards and their evolution is essential. This includes familiarity with the technical specifications related to radio interfaces, spectrum bands, and features for current technologies (LTE, 5G NR) and future generations (e.g., 6G).

  • Strong organizational skills.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $124,000.00 - $238,000.00. The annual salary range for the Illinois location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $136,500.00 - $238,000.00.
