About the Role

Zayo is seeking a Director of Packet Network Architecture and Reliability to lead the strategic direction, engineering standards, and operational reliability of our packet network infrastructure. This leadership role is critical in driving the performance, scalability, and resiliency of our core routing platforms and unified communications systems. You'll work across engineering, operations, and product teams to define architectures, guide upgrades, support new product development, and services at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities

Network Strategy & Platform Connectivity

  • Lead the architecture/strategy for core routing equipment and the packet network.

  • Drive platform connectivity, integration, lifecycle support and upgrades.

  • Establish the engineering standards and best practices for network architecture.

  • Collaborate with product development teams to support new service rollouts with scalable, documented network solutions.

  • Work with developers at a detailed level to bring innovative solutions to life and solve a wide range of network challenges.

  • Ensure comprehensive service documentation and network design materials are maintained and up to date.

Reliability and Operations Engineering

  • Drive reliability engineering practices across both packet and unified communications (UC/Voice) platforms.

  • Guide the implementation of network monitoring, alerting, and alarming frameworks.

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for network repair and service delivery issues including direct customer engagement along with other operational teams.

  • Lead development and support of centralized voice routing engines.

  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of our voice fraud prevention system.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in network engineering, with five (5) or more years in a leadership role.

  • Expert-level knowledge of IP networking, core routing protocols, and enterprise or service provider-scale network infrastructure.

  • Strong skills in both layer 2 and layer 3 networks with a solid understanding of optical transport delivery methods and technologies.

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco and/or Juniper platforms is required.

  • Proven track record in designing and maintaining highly reliable, scalable network infrastructures.

  • Proficiency with voice platforms, SIP routing, and UC systems.

  • Strong knowledge of network security, voice fraud prevention, and operational best practices.

  • Experience developing and leading cross-functional teams, setting technical direction, and driving results.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with executives, engineers, and partners.

  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of executing calmly against tough deadlines.

  • Adept working in a Multivendor hybrid network.

Additional Skills/Experience

  • CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent industry certifications.

  • Exposure to disaggregated Switching / routing and control plane environments is a plus.

  • Familiarity with network automation and orchestration tools.

  • Sys-admin skills with experience in various Linux OS environments.

  • Scripting knowledge in any of the common scripting languages.

  • Prior experience in a tech company or telecom/service provider environment.

  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity experience.

Estimated Base Salary Range: $126,600 - $194,700 USD/annually.

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
