This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.
We invite you to be a part of our mission as a Site Reliability Engineer. Your focus will be to maintain and enhance our source code management (SCM) infrastructure, debug and develop robust CI/CD pipelines, most importantly support our developers. You will also be expected to participate in on-call rotations to provide support for our critical developer services.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SCM Tools, such as GitLab/GitHub and CI/CD such as GitLab runner/GitHub Actions, experienced in Golang or Python for automation and backend services, and React programming experience for GUI applications.

- Administer and scale source code management (SCM) and artifact repositories, ensuring best practices in branching, tagging, and versioning are followed.
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, optimizing build and deployment processes to increase developer productivity.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools using Golang or Python to streamline development operations.
- Monitor system performance, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks in collaboration with development teams.
- Manage artifact repositories and ensure the secure storage and retrieval of build artifacts.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve urgent issues affecting developer platforms, minimizing downtime.
- Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to source code management and automation practices.
- Create, update, and maintain high-quality documentation for systems, processes, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate closely with software engineering and security teams to support releases, architectural decisions, and incident response.
- Represent SRE on cross-functional teams and technical initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, software engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong coding skills (Golang or Python preferred), with a proven track record of developing reliable automation tools.
- Practical experience implementing and maintaining source code management (SCM) and artifact management systems (e.g., Git, GitLab, GitHub, Artifactory, Nexus).
- In-depth knowledge of security best practices for Git operations and artifact handling.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex CI/CD pipelines.
- In-depth knowledge of virtual machine (VM) image-building automation tools such as Packer or AWS Image Builder.
- In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes (K8s) infrastructure, including Rancher and Amazon EKS.
- In-depth knowledge of containerization technologies and orchestration systems such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience analyzing and troubleshooting distributed systems.
- Experience with systems monitoring, alerting tools, and incident management.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- A passion for learning new technologies and continuously improving existing systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with web development frameworks, especially React.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated track record of delivering projects successfully in a results-driven environment.
- Experience with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio).
- Experience supporting regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance) and familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2).
Compensation Range for: WA applicants is $177,567.00-$248,593.80
