The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The New Point Specialty is a 15-bed psychiatric facility serving adolescents who are residents of NJ between the ages of 14 and 18. Services are voluntary. The Children System of Care, Contract Systems Administrator determines the specialty bed level of care and referrals are made via the SRTU for admission into the program. NPS is licensed by The Office of Licensing and accredited by the Joint Commission.

The program model is designed to respond to the needs of significantly traumatized youth who have severe behavioral and emotional disturbances. Youths admitted into the program demonstrate an array of behaviors that include, but are not limited to, impulse control, anger outbursts, assaultive behaviors, self-harming acts, and oppositional behaviors.

An array of specialized treatments are incorporated into the trauma-focused model, including Sexually Reactive Behavior and/or Fire-Setting Specific Treatment. Comprehensive family treatment is done when applicable, which may include psycho-educational, group, and clinical family sessions.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • At least one year of work experience working with children and adolescents

  • Unencumbered current driver's license

  • A clean driver's license record as determined by the employer and is also validated by the NJMVA

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, varies 7am-3pm; 3pm-11pm; 11pm-7am
  • Per Diem (PD)

Essential Functions:

  • Directly reports to the Program Director/Assistant Director on day-to-day events and planned activities
  • Responsible for the coordination and assignment of tasks during shift
  • Responsible for exercising discretion and judgment as to the need for psychiatric or medical emergency services and reports to on-call clinical or nursing
  • Responsible for implementing the medical plan of care as per MD/Nursing instructions
  • Assures that the visitation log is up-to-date and screens all visitors prior to entering the unit
  • Oversees and participates in resident restraints as necessary and in accordance with standards to maintain a safe environment
  • Responsible for determining the implementation of elopement protocol per residents' needs
  • Documents in the record participation in crisis management including precipitants, interventions and outcomes
  • Attends and participates in unit meetings by offering suggestions, ideas and comments concerning unit and team efforts
  • Maintains a clean and comfortable environment for the patient according to established policy and procedure
  • Serves as preceptor to new employees and students
  • Contributes to the formulation of and carrying out of treatment plans elaborated by the staff of the treatment team
  • Participates in staff meetings
  • Leads resident community meetings daily
  • Supervises patient interaction with family members, especially during visitation and provides supportive intervention, as required
  • Leads psycho-educational groups
  • Assesses age-specific safety issues
  • Oversees the delivery of medication according to state standards
