Summary: Under general supervision of the Attending Physicians in Child Neurology, in collaboration with CNDC clinical nursing staff, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for evaluation of neurology outpatients in the Children's Neurodevelopment Center/Hasbro Children's Hospital. Assists in the care and management of child neurology patients to include, but not limited to, addressing urgent patient phone calls in a timely manner, seeing medically urgent patients in the office or via telehealth, reviewing patient plans with the attending neurologist, and coordinating follow-up visits with the attending neurologist. The nurse practitioner will review patient concerns with the nursing staff and will assist the pediatric neurology nurses when clinical questions arise. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age and developmentally specific needs of the patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services with Brown University Health's mission, vision, values with consideration of the life span, including all development stages as well as cultural patterns. Responsibilities: Addresses patient phone calls with urgent clinical questions and schedules urgent visits when appropriate. Coordinates referrals from Emergency Department and pediatricians. Assists with triaging new patient referrals and schedules urgent patient visits when appropriate. Obtains and records medical histories, performs and records physical examinations, records pertinent progress notes in the medical records, develops treatment plans, develops follow-up plans, and coordinates follow-up visits with the attending neurologists. Initiates patient care management plan with the registered nurses and the attending physician. Provides educational and liaison supports to health care team members, including RNs and MAs. Participates in the education of patients, families, and caregivers regarding the treatment plan, and expected outcomes and progress. May perform other duties as requested, by the attending physician, including, but not limited to, evaluation of patients in the office, hospital, or coordination of transitioning inpatient to outpatient treatment plans. Participates in quality improvement teams, and other committees, as needed. Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. . Other information: Other Information Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Graduate from a Nurse Practitioner program with MS degree. Certified by the American Nurses Association (ANA) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role. License must include prescriptive privileges. Completion of a course in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support. EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of supervised three-month clinical internship or equivalent in clinically intensive atmosphere (hospital) preferably in Pediatrics or Neurology. Must have patient care services, procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician. Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital, physicians' office, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
