Summary:

The Sr Research Technology
Specialist supports the Brown University Health research and academic mission. Analyzes,
designs, implements, and maintains information technology solutions and systems
for the Brown University Health academic and research community, and manages and oversees
projects and staff as required. Responsibilities include the concept, analysis,
planning, design, testing and assessment of the academic and research
initiatives. Prepares the appropriate technical documentation, project plans
and end-user documentation. Audits and assesses institutional methodologies and
computer systems.  Represents Brown University Health
when collaborating and interacting with other academic institutions.

Responsibilities:

Participates in managing
large-scale projects and initiatives.

Acts as liaison between the
IS department and the research community and administration.

Engages
with members of the Brown University Health research community that includes clinical and
basic science investigators, research support staff, students and trainees, and
research administration to understand requirements of information technology
assets needed to conduct their research and academic activities at Brown University Health.

Analyzes user requirements
and develops innovative solutions and strategies for new and/or enhanced
applications system to meet research community needs by means that maximize
alignment with Brown University Health business practices.

Coordinates and troubleshoots
software (hardware) problems on behalf of the end user community where
necessary beyond standard channels.

Analyzes the capabilities of
new and existing application software (hardware) and applies functionality
where appropriate.

Administers, monitors, and
maintains a high degree of system and application security.

Prepares operational,
technical and end-user documentation.

Attends meetings and
participates in committees as required.

Works with end-users,
Research Administration, and IS Department to establish appropriate priorities
for all requests.

Communicates activities and
project status information to users and IS Department.

Initiates professional growth
in area of specialty.

Assists in the professional
development of other IS staff.

Effectively prioritizes own
work to complete job responsibilities. Adjusts priorities based upon
understanding of policies and procedures.

Completes job
responsibilities within required timeframe, according to established

schedules or workflow
requirements.

Evaluates areas in need of
improvement and provides input to improve current methods, services, programs
or technology.

Reviews and assesses
information before consulting additional resources or making decisions and
solving problems.

Uses proper judgment and
knowledge of established practices and procedures when

addressing problems or
issues.

Establishes and maintains
effective relationships with customers, gaining their trust and respect.

Anticipates customer needs
and proactively addresses them and leads or delegates follow-up efforts with
other IS segments where necessary on behalf of the customer.

Proactively seeks
understanding the customer's business and the importance to the organizations
mission.

Follows the established
procedures and effectively uses tools to provide high level support to
customers.

Demonstrates an ability to
work well with employees at all levels.

Contributes information,
ideas and opinions in a group setting.

Volunteers for team
assignments or group problem solving.

Assists in directing and
maintaining own professional development.

Performs other related duties
as assigned.

Other information:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's
Degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field. A minimum of seven
years' information technology experience may be substituted for a Degree.

EXPERIENCE:

At
least seven years' experience in Information Technology as well as at least
three years in a managerial or project management role is required.

Experience
in Information Services and/or research and academics are preferred.

Must
have outstanding verbal, written, presentation, communication and interpersonal
skills.

Progressively
more responsible related experience, demonstrating high level of oral and
written communication skills, effective leadership skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Provides
functional guidance to others who may be assigned on a project basis.

Supervises
up to 1 FTE.
