Job Summary

Involves the management and administration of patient pre-registration and registration, pre-admissions and admissions, transfers, insurance eligibility and authorization, financial counseling and patient flow / bed management. Services are provided in a variety of environments, such as the emergency department, hospital admissions, birth center, ambulatory care clinics, surgery centers, laboratory and radiology services. Functions are provided in concert with clinical and business departments across the organization, to ensure efficient patient flow and to maximize revenue collection. Works closely with patient financial services and case management department to maintain payer requirements and analyze denials.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $98,300 - $210,300 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Strong knowledge of patient access systems used to drive workflow and reporting for areas of responsibility.
  • Strong managerial, skills in planning and delegating work, deploying staff, building staff competencies, resource management, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Strong ability to quickly evaluate complex problems, identify multiple potential solutions, and effectively implement action plans to bring about successful resolutions.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills to prepare and present reports.
  • Ability to convey complex information, instructions, and guidelines in a clear manner, and to influence and persuade all levels of staff.
  • Proven ability to create a departmental culture with a strong commitment to high quality customer service and patient satisfaction.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and performance issues.
  • Knowledge of all relevant technology, including systems, applications, hardware, processes, and methodology.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and performance issues in developing goals, policies, plans, strategies, quality improvement programs, technological upgrades, and systems for monitoring and maintaining accuracy, quality, productivity, and compliance within department
