Since then, Kingsbury, Inc. has been the leader in the design and manufacture of tilt-pad fluid-film thrust and journal bearings for all types of rotating machinery, with thousands of installations worldwide. The Company is comprised of a Corporate office (Philadelphia, PA), two (2) manufacturing facilities (Philadelphia, PA and Oshkosh, WI) and two (2) repair and service facilities (Philadelphia, PA and Yuba City, CA) located in the United States. In addition, Kingsbury has one (1) manufacturing facility located in Gottingen Germany. Job Purpose: This position involves working in the R&D Test Lab assisting the Engineering staff with journal and thrust bearing testing. Responsibilities include repeated assembly and disassembly of the various test rigs, installing and troubleshooting instrumentation, assisting with data acquisition during the tests, test documentation, equipment maintenance, and general lab upkeep. The candidate will need to document the state of test rig components, both written in test documentation and visually in photographs and/or video. At the end of the co-op experience, the candidate will have an excellent understanding of the operation of tilt-pad fluid-film thrust and journal bearings. Additionally, he/she will be intimately familiar with an R&D environment within an engineering firm, from an understanding of test data acquisition to test rig instrumentation and test data post-processing. Abilities and Other Skills: Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Mathematical: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Lifting: This position requires lifting up to 10 pounds over 2/3 of the time. Vision: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) Required Education and Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university Engineering program. This position is a "hands-on" technical position. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a proficiency with basic shop tools and practices. Additionally, the candidate will be a self-starter and detail orientated, will have excellent organizational and time management skills, and will be able to work independently. He/she should be able to read mechanical detail and assembly drawings and will be proficient with Microsoft Office. Although candidates from all experience levels will be considered, this is an ideal position for a Beginner or Intermediate candidate who has not completed a large breadth of coursework needed in some of the more advanced opportunities in the co-op program.
