The Vice President of Operations is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of a broad portfolio of non-clinical service departments across the WVU Medicine Eastern Region (Berkeley Medical Center & Jefferson Medical Center). This executive will lead the functions of Facilities Engineering, Environmental Services, Safety, Security, Clinical Laboratories, and Dietary and Nutrition Services. The VP ensures each department supports excellence, regulatory compliance, patient satisfaction, staff safety, and financial performance. The role requires visionary leadership, operational expertise, and the ability to lead teams in a complex, regulated healthcare environment. The leader is responsible for guiding change to achieve goals and representing the organization to key external authorities and constituencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Master's Degree in Health Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Engineering, or related field required. EXPERIENCE: 1. Ten (10) years of progressive healthcare leadership experience with at least 5 years at the executive level. Experience overseeing multiple departments across diverse hospital or healthcare settings. Proven experience managing multi-site operations and cross-functional teams. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Membership status with the American College of Healthcare Executives. This is an executive-level, regional role that will require regular travel to various sites. Onsite leadership with some hybrid work time available based on operational needs. 2. Abilities in the following areas: Provider relations, continuous quality improvement, customer service, cost containment, employee relations, recruitment/retention, strategic planning, facility construction and program development. 5. Ability to partner with leaders at all levels and medical staff leadership. 6. Strong knowledge of hospital operations, regulatory compliance (e.g., TJC, CMS, OSHA), and healthcare quality standards. 7. Strategic thinking with the ability to lead transformation and change management initiatives. 8. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective leadership and collaboration. 9. Financial and operational acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and performance benchmarking. 10. Demonstrated ability to lead in high-stakes environments with a focus on safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement. 11. Ability to implement continuous quality improvement and process improvement programs. 12. Strong relationship and team building skills. 13. Ability to speak before audiences and negotiate and navigate relationships with community and business leaders. 14. Enhanced communication skills and the ability to adapt to an audience are essential to the position. 15. Ability to assess a problem and determine a course of action without delay. 16. Ability to articulate an opinion while being able to support group decisions even when they may not reflect a preferred approach. 17. Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff, administrators, clinical staff, non-clinical staff, patients, and community members.
