About the Job

This is a temp/casual, hourly position for duration of 67 days (or less).

Job Duties

90% Communications and Advancement

  • Update, maintain and improve departmental websites
  • Manage social media strategy and accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Serve as liaison with the partner departments and offices to coordinate the release of news stories and events to increase reach to various communications media
  • Create and curate content (written, photo, video) and news releases to support the department
  • Engage with media, stakeholders, and the public on questions, comments, or requests for information regarding the Department's teaching, research, and outreach initiatives.
  • Support communications and engagement related to donor stewardship and
    cultivation
  • Represent the department on committees involving communications, stakeholders, donors, alumni, and engagement
  • Manage internal communications, listserv design, and management, employee and student newsletters
  • Manage departmental intranet site; design communications strategies to support departmental operations
  • Engage with University colleges and departments on best practices, internal process development, and opportunities for collaboration. Create opportunities for additional engagement and relationship building.

10% Administrative Project Management & Event Coordination and Management Horticultural Science

  • Departmental seminar committee support and seminar logistics including guest speaker itineraries and accommodations, seminar setup, and webinar assistance.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A BA/BS degree or a combination of education and work experience equal to at least four years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media accounts
  • Knowledge of Drupal and Google Suite.
  • Proficiency in software and web applications to accomplish: word processing, spreadsheets, presentations/document layout, internet search and navigation, social media applications, mass email software
  • Experience communicating effectively with students and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience serving in a liaison role between stakeholders
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • A background or experience in photography
  • Experience with event planning
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $50.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
