Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. This is a 24-month assignment which may be renewed if additional funding is realized.

Purpose

The Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Outreach Assistant to work with the Military Program Manager on ROTC recruitment, marketing, and compliance. Applicants should be enthusiastic about the role of the U.S. Armed Services and the public service opportunities that they provide to college students.

This role will be responsible for marketing, promoting, and communicating news about Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC programs and opportunities to current and incoming students at UT Austin and several ROTC satellite campuses. The Outreach Assistant will daily engage in-person with a dynamic student body that is enrolled in a variety of departments and degree programs. Under the supervision of the Clements Center, this position will work closely with each ROTC department to coordinate recruiting and marketing events and to thoroughly understand the nuances of each service's needs and policies. This position will also build relationships with university administrators, faculty, and staff across campus to aid in current student recruitment within academic departments. This position will also serve a small, informal role in admissions compliance on behalf of scholarship recipients.

Responsibilities

Marketing and Promotion

  • Work closely with the Associate Director and Senior Program Manager to market ROTC programs to a broad student audience across campus.
  • Build strong relationship with ROTC program leaders to enhance and grow student interest in ROTC programs and classes.
  • Plan and conduct 2-3 recruiting/marketing events per week.
  • Design posters, print materials and handouts for ROTC programs.
  • Identify student audiences, student organizations and departments to partner with for further promotion of ROTC programs.
  • Update social media platforms and accounts with promotional materials.

Compliance

  • Serve as a liaison between multiple departments and University admissions to support onboarding of ROTC candidates.
  • Maintain detailed catalogue of scholarship and funding opportunities available from the different military programs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree + 1 year of experience or High School Diploma/GED + 5 years' experience.
  • Ability to enthusiastically interact with students to market ROTC programs.
  • A commitment to being student-centric with an ability to listen, interpret and respond to student needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent workflow skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms and online marketing/promotion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other tools. Comfortable learning new technologies.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree + 1 year of experience.
  • Prior direct or indirect experience with the military a plus.
  • Experience working with students in a university setting a plus.
  • Experience using Adobe Illustrator or similar products for graphic design.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Salary Range

$48,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • This position is based in Austin, TX, and is expected to work in-person on campus daily.
  • Some nights and weekends may be required during peak periods and for special events.
  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
