What you'll do

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for an Offshore Communications Technician to join our dynamic team located in Morgan City, Louisiana!

As a Offshore Communications Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of voice and data microwave communication systems across both land-based and offshore facilities. Working on a steady 7-day on / 7-day off rotation, you will manage the preparation, dispatch, and technical support required to keep the Microwave Network Infrastructure running smoothly. Additionally, this role requires the ability to perform mid-level system commissioning, testing, and maintenance on various Viasat products and services in a variety of environments, including domestic onshore sites and international offshore locations.


The day-to-day

  • Install and repair a wide range of communication systems on offshore rigs, including Microwave, LTE, satellite, Cisco VoIP, Intercoms, and two-way radios.

  • Maintain infrastructure by configuring and troubleshooting auxiliary power, DC systems, and battery backups.

  • Assemble and install antenna systems at onshore, offshore, and remote locations.

  • Commission and test network equipment (Microwave, WiMAX, and LTE) to ensure peak performance.

  • Support the team by assisting fellow technicians with complex installations and solving company-wide technical issues.

  • Own each job from start to finish, acting as the primary liaison between clients and internal Viasat teams.

  • Provide technical resources and support to ensure all services are delivered on time.

  • Manage documentation by accurately completing timesheets, inventory records, and field tickets.

  • Secure approvals from site management for all completed work and required paperwork.

  • Strictly follow safety protocols required by the company and facility owners, including Lock Out/Tag Out, Fall Protection, and Water Egress.

  • Maintain certifications for essential safety standards such as H2S, First Aid/CPR, and ISN/PEC.


What you'll need

Technical Skills & Experience

  • RF Systems: Proven experience with radio frequency communication systems.

  • Networking: Familiarity with computer networking systems and components (a plus).

  • Tools & Software: Proficiency in using various hand tools and basic PC operations, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to work efficiently with minimal direction and stay organized under pressure.

Communication & Soft Skills

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to act as a professional liaison with customers.

  • Adaptability: Capacity to meet both customer and company demands within tight timeframes.

Schedule & Physical Requirements

  • Rotation: Ability to work an offshore rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off.

  • Flexibility: Must be available for on-call duties and willing to work overtime or scheduled days off when necessary.

Logistics & Compliance

  • Licenses & Travel: Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to obtain both a TWIC card and a Passport.

  • Medical & Screening: Ability to pass an OGUK physical and a standard Drug & Alcohol (D&A) screening.

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced Communication Systems: Strong interest and experience with commercial-grade Microwave, WiMAX, and LTE systems.

  • Networking: Proficient in Cisco networking equipment and IP networking configurations.

  • Full Lifecycle Support: Proven ability to handle the installation, commissioning, and fault-finding (troubleshooting) of Microwave and satellite systems.

Specialized Tools & Education

  • Test Equipment: Skilled in operating specialized diagnostic tools, including:Spectrum Analyzers, BERT Testers and Wattmeters and Power Meters.
  • Education: An Associate's Degree in Electronics, Engineering, Telecommunications, or Data Networks is highly preferred.

Salary range

$27.64 - $43.75 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $34.38 - $51.68/ hourly
