Position Summary:

The Graduate Medical Education Manager provides the operational and personnel leadership for the residency and fellowship programs sponsored by Creighton University School of Medicine - Phoenix, in accordance with ACGME standards and policies. This role ensures compliance, supports program accreditation and provides leadership support to program managers and faculty. Manages the day-to-day operations of GME programs to ensure they operate in accordance with accreditation requirements and individual hospital compliance standards.

Essential Functions:

Program Manager Leadership: Provides direct oversight of the residency and fellowship Program Managers based at Valleywise Health and St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Lead recruitment efforts, supervise and mentor Program Managers; facilitate professional development opportunities.

GME Leadership: Responsible for supporting the DIO and Director of Graduate Medical Education in comprehensive leadership and coordination of the residency/fellowship training program(s) and related staff. This includes accreditation site visit preparation, recruitment, evaluations, policy writing, assessment of graduate outcomes, and other oversight.

Collaborate with GME Office in the maintenance and oversight of New Innovations, including accuracy of data/reporting, system updates, etc. Works in concert with Institutional GME staff to promote collaboration among Program Managers based at training sites.

Operations: Set goals, monitors performance and annual timeline expectations for each program to maximize success. Provides input on direction for and participates on GME-related committee meetings as needed (HLC, GMEC sub-committees, etc.). Prepare reports/presentations for committee meetings.

Organize and coordinate institution-wide events, in partnership with GME Director and staff.

Supports the planning and implementation of new resident orientation, including the onboarding, credentialing, and provisioning of all incoming residents.

Finance: Manages budgets and expenditures related to fellowship and residency program operations. Approves expenses, communicates budget performance to programs and partners with Program Managers in annual budget development process.

Compliance: Maintain Creighton University School of Medicine - Phoenix GME policies and procedures are consistent and compatible with those adopted by the training sites and the Graduate Medical Education Committee. Ensure policies and procedures are communicated to and made available to all housestaff every year. Facilitate submission of all documents for and monitor maintenance of appropriate licensure, visas, and certification of residents/fellows.

Accountable for current and historical data/documentation of residency and fellowship programs and housestaff files at primary partner sites; accountable for accurate verifications related to data.

In partnership with Program Managers and Creighton GME office in Phoenix, ensure that residents and fellows meet compliance and annual training requirements as required by the training sites.

Communications & Marketing: Liaison in the development of residency/fellowship program marketing/recruitment strategies in partnership with Communication Strategist and Program Managers. Monitors web content for accuracy/updates, supports new content development.

Housestaff Relations: At the direction of Director of GME, partner with HR, Legal, DIO and Alliance stakeholders to provide administrative support for significant trainee matters including performance, grievance and appeals, and leaves of absence.

Other Essential Functions: Delivers expertise and collaborates with program directors, associate program directors and residents on initiatives as needed.

Supports coordination between Program Managers and Contract Analyst in execution of program letter agreements to ensure compliance for all approved rotations.

Point person for Creighton resident/fellow operational matters at Valleywise Health and St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center training.

Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in health care administration and/or medical education in an academic medical center environment.
  • Minimum 2 years' personnel management experience.
  • Experience in a large academic health system.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
