TITLE: Electrified Powertrain Torque Controls Algorithm Engineer DUTIES: Work with a team of powertrain controls, calibrations, and integration engineers to develop electrified powertrain systems for current and next-generation electrified powertrains. Develop a complete electrified powertrain that meets the vehicle functional requirements for fuel economy, emissions, drivability, and diagnostics. Develop controls strategies related to start-stop, strategic optimization of engine speed, gear, powertrain state, engine torque optimization, and tactical torque controls for drivability management, brake regeneration controls, and hybrid shift execution strategies integrated with hybrid system constraints. Utilize the physics principles of the combustion engine and electric motors and model mechanical transmission systems. Use lever analogy principles for determining dynamic torque and speed relations used extensively across hybrid torque controls. Mathematical formulation of powertrain linear systems to solve optimization/control problems. Up to 10% domestic and international travel required. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering or related field of study and 5 years of experience in job offered or a related position in the automotive industry. Alternatively, Master's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering or related field of study and 3 years of experience in job offered or related position. Experience must include: working with vehicle and powertrain functions; experience with model-based development tools, including MATLAB, SIMULINK, or GTSUITE; experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS INCA; knowledge of classical and modern control disciplines with vehicle application including optimal control; working with embedded software; knowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best Practices.
