Overview BigBear.ai is seeking a Jr. Software Test Engineer to support the testing and quality assurance of web and mobile applications for mission-critical government systems. This entry-level role is ideal for someone early in their career who is passionate about software quality, detail-oriented, and eager to gain hands-on experience with automation frameworks and QA practices. You'll work closely with experienced testers and developers, learning modern testing tools and methodologies while contributing to the delivery of high-quality software solutions. What you will do Assist with developing and executing automated test scripts for web and mobile applications Perform functional, regression, and smoke testing to verify software quality before release Document test cases, defects, and results in JIRA to ensure transparency and collaboration Support manual testing efforts when automation is not applicable Work with developers and senior QA engineers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve issues Contribute to the creation and maintenance of test plans, test cases, and automation suites Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and learn best practices in quality assurance Gain exposure to the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements through deployment What you need to have Bachelor's Degree and 2 to 5 years of experience; Master's Degree and 0 to 3 years of experience; 8 to 10 years with no degree Basic knowledge of automation testing concepts and tools (e.g., Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or similar) Familiarity with test case creation, defect tracking, and QA methodologies Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript basics to help test web applications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail Ability to clearly document test steps and results Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a DHS background check What we'd like you to have Project-based experience with automation testing Familiarity with Jira or other defect tracking tools Exposure to API testing (Postman, REST Assured, or similar) Basic understanding of Agile development practices Enthusiasm for continuous learning and building technical skills in test automation Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset About BigBear.ai BigBear.ai is a leading provider of AI-powered decision intelligence solutions for national security, supply chain management, and digital identity.
