Job Description:
This is a temporary position for twelve (12) months.
Reporting to the Executive Director for Campus Operations, responsible for advancing an asset management approach to facilities stewardship, applying lifecycle planning, preventive and predictive maintenance, and data-driven decision making to ensure the long-term performance, value, and sustainability of University facilities
JOB DUTIES:
Oversight responsibilities include major elements of facilities operations including but not limited to: HVAC/mechanical, plumbing, electrical, elevators, grounds maintenance, motor pool/maintenance, help-desk/warehouse, event set-up and support, budgeting/purchasing/accounting support for department, and campus-wide custodial contractor services. Provides strategic direction for preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs to optimize asset performance across their lifecycle. Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive Facilities Asset Management Plan aligned with IFMA and ISO 55000 principles. Oversees the use of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), facility condition assessments, and lifecycle modeling to track asset performance, forecast reinvestment needs, and inform capital renewal planning. Integrates asset condition data, risk assessments, and total cost of ownership analysis into campus master planning and Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction activities. Ensures operational perspectives are represented in design and construction projects to reduce lifecycle costs and support long-term institutional goals. Provides leadership and supervision to a department of 45-60 staff members, including 7-10 direct reports. Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees; manages recruitment, training, and development; assigns and monitors work; establishes schedules; conducts performance appraisals; and addresses complaints and resolves problems. Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement to ensure high-quality facilities operations.. Oversees facilities safety procedures, training, and practices to ensure safe working conditions and minimize risk. Embeds safety, sustainability, and resilience considerations into asset management strategies. Ensures ongoing, comprehensive, and data-driven departmental planning and assessment occurs, to include the establishment and review of goals, alignment with the mission of the University, regular measurement of facility performance outcomes, integration of assessment results with budget requests, and transparent reporting of progress to stakeholders.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience, and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies. Participates in ongoing continuing education with APPA, IFMA, and/or their associated regional and statewide bodies. Serves as Program Manager for the University's annual fleet replacement program, ensuring vehicles are evaluated for lifecycle cost, safety, and sustainability, and that replacements are prioritized, budgeted, and procured in alignment with institutional needs. Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines. Performs other duties as required.
This is a twelve (12) month temporary position. EDUCATION Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, facilities management, construction management, business administration, or a related field.
Preferred:
Master's degree in facilities management, engineering, business administration, public administration, or a related discipline.
EXPERIENCE Required:
Eight years of progressively responsible leadership experience in new construction and renovation, HVAC/ mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, elevators, grounds maintenance, motor pool, warehouse/ mailroom logistics, and/or campus-wide custodial contractor services.
Preferred:
Ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in new construction and renovation, HVAC/ mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, elevators, grounds maintenance, motor pool, warehouse/ mailroom logistics, and campus-wide custodial contractor services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Required:
- Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and sound judgment in managing complex facilities operations.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through APPA, IFMA, or similar organizations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate a vision that inspires and motivates diverse teams.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and external partners.
- Skilled in negotiation and vendor/contract management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of facilities management practices, multiple trades, and emerging technologies in the field.
- Knowledge of asset management frameworks (e.g., IFMA, ISO 55000) and the ability to apply lifecycle planning and total cost of ownership principles.
- Proficiency in budget planning, financial management, and resource allocation.
- Experience with service management planning and execution, including performance measurement and continuous improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to use data to inform decision-making.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to safety, sustainability, and institutional mission.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Required:
- Ability to obtain and maintain required safety, environmental, or trade-related certifications as appropriate to assigned responsibilities.

- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) - IFMA
- Facility Management Professional (FMP) - IFMA
- Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) - IFMA
- Certification in Asset Management (e.g., ISO 55000-based IAM Certificate or Diploma)
- Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP) - APPA
- Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), or equivalent licensure in a relevant discipline
