Job Description

Dewberry has an opportunity for an Entry Level Fire Protection/Plumbing Designer to join a growing group of professional engineers in their Raleigh, NC office. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or mechanical engineering with previous internship experience. Project types may include healthcare, industrial, laboratory, mission critical facilities, energy conservation studies, facility condition assessments, and construction cost estimates. Tasks will include but not be limited to fire protection and plumbing systems design, drawing production, specification writing, discipline coordination between the various trades, shop drawing and submittal reviews, construction site reviews, and code reviews.

Responsibilities

    Work with a project team and assist in the design of fire protection and plumbing systems.
  • Field verification of existing systems, available space, clearances, etc.
  • Load calculations, hydraulic calculations, sizing and selecting equipment, piping design, and editing of specifications.
  • Prepare design documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit software in accordance with Dewberry standards.
  • Assist project engineer on reports, calculations, computer simulations, and design of fire protection and plumbing systems.
  • Arrange for in-house quality review in a timely manner primarily to ensure that all the clients' needs and requests have been accommodated.
  • Ensure and coordinate among all disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
  • Conduct construction site inspections, obtain as-built drawings, and closeout materials from contractors.


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor of science in architectural engineering or mechanical engineering degree from an ABET accredited university is required.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of multiple disciplines.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, construction drawings and specifications, project schedules, and cost estimates to meet project requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit preferred, and good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Valid driver's license and background check is required.
