UNC REX Critical Care Transport operates a fleet of 10 ambulances delivering high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Critical Care Transport (CCT) across eastern North Carolina.

We provide a full spectrum of interfacility transports-from stable patients moving to rehabilitation centers to critically ill individuals requiring complex medical care, including ventilator management, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). On average, our team completes over 600 patient transports each month.

Operating 24/7, UNC REX Critical Care Transport works in close coordination with specialists across multiple disciplines, including neurology, pulmonology, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, intensive care, and cardiology. Our services ensure seamless continuity of care between referring hospitals and facilities such as UNC REX Hospital, UNC Medical Center, and other regional partners.

Our Specialty Care Transport (SCT) teams are specially trained to care for patients with a wide range of critical conditions, including:

  • Cardiac arrest

  • Stroke (CVA)

  • Respiratory failure
