The Design Systems Engineer (DSE) will lead the technical coordination and execution of Electric Drive Systems (EDS) and Electric Drive Modules (EDM) across the product lifecycle. This role is responsible for driving cross-functional alignment, ensuring timely delivery of system-level design milestones, and supporting strategic execution of program objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical depth in electric propulsion systems and demonstrate leadership in managing complex deliverables across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the integration of EDS/EDM system design activities, ensuring alignment with vehicle architecture, packaging constraints, and functional requirements
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of design releases, validation plans, and system documentation
- Drive execution of technical deliverables across the product lifecycle, including concept, development, launch, and post-production support
- Facilitate system-level design reviews, risk assessments, and issue resolution forums to ensure program targets are met
- Manage system complexity by guiding DREs and DRECs in requirements decomposition, BOM alignment, and change management processes
- Support the Chief Engineer (CE) and Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) in defining and maintaining the EDM Technical Description and system-level documentation
- Ensure alignment of design activities with project timing, cost, quality, and performance objectives
- Lead the coordination of experimental builds, prototype planning, and supplier engagement for EDM components
- Provide technical leadership in the development of DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, and compliance documentation
- Support launch readiness activities including plant interface, service documentation, and production validation
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, cost reduction opportunities, and technical evolution strategies
- Act as the central point of contact for system-level execution, reporting status, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership
- Support warranty analysis and root cause investigations to improve product reliability and reduce field issues
- Define and track service life targets for EDM components, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and durability standards
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering or related degree field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in electric drive systems, propulsion systems, or related engineering fields
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical teams and manage complex system-level deliverables
- Strong understanding of system requirements engineering and component integration
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or Electromechanical Systems
- Experience in product design and release, especially within electric propulsion systems
- Familiarity with validation planning, compliance documentation, and launch readiness activities
- Working knowledge of program execution tools and methodologies (e.g., DFSS, risk management, BOM-BOP alignment)
- Experience with supplier coordination, manufacturing interface, and cost tracking
- Green Belt or higher in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
