What Your Job Will Be Like

The Nuclear Facility Operations Manager oversees the operational management of Sandia National Laboratories' nuclear reactor facilities, including the Annular Core Research Reactor Facility (ACRRF) and the Sandia Pulsed Reactor Facility/Critical Experiments (SPRF/CX). These facilities play a critical role in supporting national security through experiments related to stockpile stewardship and nuclear criticality safety training.

This management role involves coordinating workforce recruitment, training, performance assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational standards as mandated by DOE Orders.

  • The manager is responsible for maintaining rigorous operational protocols, ensuring that Safety Basis documents are current and effectively implemented, and fostering trust-based relationships with regulators and customers.
  • Additionally, the manager will navigate complex regulatory documents and standards, track performance metrics, and lead strategic planning efforts to optimize operational processes while balancing risk and safety principles.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of nuclear safety culture and demonstrate leadership in managing staff resources and programmatic equipment to support both current and future projects

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite.

Salary Range

$157,100 - $267,000

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus 8 or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Six years of experience in nuclear operations is required
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-Level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire

  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience in physics and reactor theory as it relates to nuclear facility safety
  • Experience managing nuclear operations
  • Knowledge of and experience with DOE nuclear facility safety bases including Documented Safety Analysis, Technical Safety Requirements, and Unreviewed Safety Questions
  • Knowledge of and experience with Sandia nuclear facilities, polices, and processes
  • Active Q clearance
About Our Team

Nuclear Facilities Operations, Department, (1381), provides operational management of nuclear reactor facilities within TA-V. These facilities include the Annular Core Research Reactor Facility and the Sandia Pulsed Reactor Facility.These nuclear facilities are used in the conduct of experiments for a wide variety of programmatic customers. Detailed facility descriptions are captured in the documented safety analysis for each nuclear facility.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
