Job Description

Allstate is currently seeking an experienced product engineer to join our Infrastructure monitoring product under observability group. The product engineer role involves configuration, implementation and support for monitoring of the application and infrastructure hosted on-prem, private and public cloud environments. The engineer is expected to have a fundamental knowledge of software development principles and best practices to apply towards building enterprise application and network monitoring systems to independently resolve problems and enhance operations of existing distributed systems.
The engineer provides technical support from product inception through implementation and daily support with an involvement in comprehending technical requirements to design and develop optimal monitoring and IT system solutions applying the knowledge of business processes, systems architecture, and cutting-edge monitoring technologies. The role promotes a strong reliability culture by partnering with software engineering, security, and architecture to solve operational problems as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure monitoring tools are available, reliable, and customer requests are fulfilled on time.
  • Design and automate metrics and alerting to provide actionable insights and support enterprise reliability goals.
  • Configure and manage core monitoring infrastructure, including upgrades, patches, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Champion existing processes while driving continuous improvement through industry best practices.
  • Ensure documentation meets compliance standards for accuracy, completeness, and data integrity.
  • Automate workflows for onboarding and instrumentation of applications, infrastructure, and middleware into monitoring platforms.
  • Deliver monitoring solutions across APM, infrastructure, RUM, synthetics, mobile, network, and cloud/SaaS domains.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to avoid recurring issues.
  • Identify and build automation tools to reduce manual effort and optimize cross-platform operations.
  • Designs systems with considerations for functional and non-functional needs for example reliability, availability and scalability etc.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment to build long-term relationships.
  • Ensure production platform stability and performance by meeting or exceeding KPIs.
  • Work within an agile framework to deliver outcomes through standups, retrospectives, and paired programming.
  • Partner closely with the product owner to ensure features, capabilities, stories, spikes, or chores are documented, sized, and tracked correctly to meet technical outcomes and acceptance criteria
  • Embrace new ideas and continuously learn from both successes and failures.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 3 years of expertise in one or more of the following monitoring platforms: IBM Tivoli, IBM Netcool, IBM SevOne, ThousandEyes, and Microsoft SCOM.
  • At least 2 years of proven experience with modern observability platforms such as Datadog or Dynatrace.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience working in Agile product teams, influencing backlogs and advocating for non-functional requirements and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of engineering excellence, with a focus on iterative, outcome-driven delivery and strategic systems thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in KPI-driven environments with accountability for achieving measurable results.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Practice engineering passion through self-directed learning and a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $70,500.00 - 124,125.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
