Title: Development Team Lead
Clearance: Public Trust (Level 6)
Location: Remote - Washington DC Metro Area
Salary Range: $160,000 - $175,000
Overview:
Agile Defense is an award-winning national security company looking for a Development Team Lead to support our contract with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
This candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be adaptive to the changing needs of the organization. This candidate must have experience with building and maintaining highly effective relationships with team members and multiple stakeholders across multiple projects. The Development Team Lead guides a team of software developers through the delivery of high-quality applications and features. This role balances leadership, hands-on development, and process improvement, ensuring that the team executes effectively while maintaining a strong technical foundation. The ideal candidate for this position will excel in a fast-paced government contractor environment and be adaptive to the changing needs of the organization.

Responsibilities/Duties:
* Lead and mentor a team of software developers, providing guidance and feedback
* Participate in hands-on development, code review, and technical design decisions.
* Work closely with product owners, engineering leaders and cross-functional partners to define requirements, timelines, and scope.
* Translate business objectives into clear development plans and technical tasks.
* Ensure code quality, performance, and maintainability through best practices and continuous improvement.
* Resolve technical issues and remove roadblocks to keep the team productive and aligned.
* Track team performance, progress, and deliverables using metrics and reporting tools.
* Promote knowledge sharing, documentation and internal tooling improvements.
* Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* 4+years of professional software development experience
* 2+ years in a lead or senior developer role guiding teams
* Proven experience building applications with React and related technologies from conception to deployment
* Experience in Ruby on Rails for developing and consuming RESTful APIs.
* Demonstrated ability to implement robust test coverage using tools like Jest, RSpec and Cypress.
* Proficiency with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/TypeScript
* Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile development practices.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and people-management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
* USCIS or DHS experience
