Description

Under general supervision, the Production Specialist will report directly to the Walter Metals Operations Manager. This new position is a dynamic and cross-functional role that combines machine operations, saw operations, shipping/receiving, and equipment maintenance. This position provides critical support to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production while also maintaining and troubleshooting key machinery. The ideal candidate will be dependable, flexible across shifts, mechanically skilled ,and take initiative to lead by example on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Serve as a trusted fill-in operator across machine, saw, and shipping/receiving areas, stepping in where needed to support team success.
  • Operate all sawing and machining equipment to shape, and finish materials to customer specifications.
  • Ability to assist with receiving, staging, and shipping material using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Must take ownership of safety: perform daily equipment checks, lead by example with PPE use, and actively promote a safety-first culture.
  • Read and interpret sawing and machining blueprints and work instructions to ensure parts are produced accurately and to quality standards.
  • Inspect and measure material using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision tools.
  • Accurately complete production paperwork and input data into computer systems, ensuring inventory and reporting accuracy.
  • Change saw blades and machine tooling, maintains coolant systems, and support routine maintenance to keep equipment in safe working condition.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repair work on saws, forklifts, overhead cranes, and shop machinery.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control system issues.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and repair of mobile equipment as needed.
  • Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain maintenance logs and records in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Communicate effectively with outside vendors for service support when required.
  • Collaborate with Managers, Supervisors and Crew Leaders to adapt to shifting priorities, support production goals, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment and take initiative to improve housekeeping and workflow wherever possible.
  • Be a go-to team member for flexible shift coverage, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.


Qualifications:



  • High School diploma or GED Required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing/machining and industrial maintenance required.
  • Must be a quick learner with the ability to train into multiple departments, including machining, saw operation, and shipping/receiving.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude including troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proven commitment to safety, including ability to identify hazards.
  • Ability to read blueprints, perform basic math and measurement conversions, and use precision tools.
  • Experience with forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for long periods, and working in a fast-paced industrial setting.
  • Comfortable using computer systems for data entry and production reporting.
  • Flexibility to work multiple shifts and support varying production needs is required.
