Job Summary

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a Communication Faculty member for Fall 2026. This position is centered around fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment that prioritizes student success and development in the field of communication. As well as being a supportive division member and providing service to the college in needed committees as a collaborative member of the division.

Essential Functions
  • Teaches a minimum of 30 load hours per academic year by incorporating multiple methods of instruction and assessment in and outside the classroom.
  • Develops written syllabi/course materials and evaluates student understanding of the subject matter.
  • Maintains course grades, prepares course modalities: face-to-face, online, or hybrid, across regular, accelerated, and alternative schedules.
  • Develops written syllabi/course materials, evaluates student knowledge of subject matter taught and maintains course grades, prepares grades, exams, and other assignments.
  • Engages in communication activities to improve the curriculum, including course assessment, program evaluation, and involvement in communication clubs and honor societies.
  • Proficient in using Canvas for course administration, including updating and creating courses within the learning management system.
  • Maintains office hours each week to assist, mentor, and advise students
  • Participates in professional development to stay current with new trends and developments in the field of Communication and teaching, and learning
  • Participates in disciplinary and divisional activities, as well as college and district committees, performing duties appropriate to the position level.
  • Performs other assigned duties.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in the teaching field

OR
  • Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours

Communication Subjects

Desired Qualifications

1. Ph.D. in Communication or related field

2. Experience in higher education instructing individuals of different abilities and backgrounds, particularly those from underrepresented populations.

3. Experience teaching the following undergraduate classes at the community college or undergraduate university level: Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Small-Group Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Introduction to Communication Inquiry

4. Experience using formative and summative assessment to evaluate student learning outcomes and institutional outcomes.

5. Experience developing instructional strategies for face-to-face, hybrid, and online course shells using appropriate learning tools, including learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.

6. Collaborating with peers in the discipline to support student success by integrating innovative assessment methods and staying current with trends and technologies transforming communication studies.

Special Working Conditions

May be required to work evening and weekend hours.
