Job Summary
The Operations Manager - Manufacturing/Prefabrication provides leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of the fabrication operations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and productivity. This role oversees scheduling, staffing, workflow optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives to support company objectives and customer satisfaction. The position is responsible for driving operational excellence through Lean manufacturing practices, optimizing resource utilization, ensuring accurate cost control, and promoting a culture of safety, quality, and accountability within the prefabrication facilities. Essential Duties Leadership & Team Development: Leads, manages, coaches, and develops production managers, planners, and production staff to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives. Conducts timely, complete, and meaningful performance management conversations. * Operational Oversight: Monitors daily production schedules to ensure manpower and materials align with project commitments. Tracks project status and proactively address bottlenecks or constraints to maintain on-time delivery. * Continuous Improvement: Champions Lean and Quality principles (5S, value stream mapping, pull planning, standard work, etc.) to drive efficiency and eliminate waste. Develop and implement operational plans to support company strategy. * Cost and Performance Management: Evaluates fabrication performance through data analysis, KPIs, and production metrics. Provides cost and budget analysis, manages over/under billings, and ensures appropriate cash flow and material utilization. * Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners with project management, field operations, engineering, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure alignment between project needs and fabrication output. Develops and maintains relationships with key customers, vendors, and subcontractors. * Process & Policy Development: Identifies and implements process improvements, standard operating procedures, and best practices to enhance consistency, safety, and quality across all fabrication activities. Safety & Quality Assurance: Promotes and enforces compliance with company safety standards, quality control procedures, and applicable codes and regulations. Ensures fabrication work meets or exceeds quality and inspection requirements. Resource Planning: Oversees facility layout planning, equipment maintenance, and workforce allocation to ensure optimal production flow and capacity utilization. Minimum Requirements Education: * Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related technical field preferred. * Equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience considered. Experience: * 8+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing, prefabrication, or mechanical construction operations, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. * Proven track record of delivering high-quality fabricated products on schedule and within budget. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills. * Deep understanding of mechanical fabrication, welding, and assembly processes (e.g., HVAC piping, sheet metal ductwork, plumbing assemblies, etc...). * Proficient in Lean manufacturing and process optimization techniques. * Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication plans, and schedules. * Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, cost control, and performance metrics. * Skilled in ERP, scheduling, and production management systems (e.g., D365, Stratus, or equivalent). * Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities under pressure Minimum certifications/license preferred of the position Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or related operational excellence certification a plus. OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification preferred. JOB BAND AND LEVEL Provides leadership to managers, supervisors and/or professional staff. Is accountable for the performance and results of multiple related units. Develops departmental plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities. Controls resources and policy formation in area of responsibility. Decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives. WORKING CONDITIONS Primarily based in a fabrication facility environment with regular exposure to industrial noise, equipment, and materials. Requires periodic site visits and collaboration with field teams.
