Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the department of Microbiology, Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the New Jersey Medical School.

The purpose of this position is to provide departmental research facilities support in planning, designing and participating in research and the development of programs, maintaining facilities and equipment, contributing to teaching and research programs, compiling data and reports, supervising technicians and students.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides and facilitates the training of department laboratory personnel on proper usage of department equipment, facilities, and biochemical techniques.
  • Monitors equipment and facility usage to ensure that it falls within department, school, regulatory agency, and manufacturer's guidelines. Provides and facilitates proper training as needed.
  • Maintains common laboratory equipment and ensures that it is in good working order. Monitors equipment usage and maintains machine logs.
  • Performs and schedules routine equipment preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. Develops and maintains networks for repair and maintenance resources to ensure equipment is repaired and maintained in an efficient, timely, economic, and effective manner.
  • Responsible for the ordering of common (shared) laboratory supplies. Monitors common (shared) laboratory supply stocks and places orders on a timely basis to maintain stocks at proper levels. Stores common (shared) laboratory supply stocks and keeps records of supplies required, preferred vendors, orders and usage.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree plus three years experience or Master's Degree plus two years experience in a relevant science within a research laboratory or department.
  • Experience with the biochemical techniques and equipment required.

  • Experience in the production of monoclonal antibodies and tissue culture is a plus.
