Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $18.00, and may increase based on major and class standing.

Provide support for receipt, inspection, storage, protection, disposal and distribution of Radiation Monitoring Equipment (RME) processed at the Health Physics Instrument Calibration Laboratory (HPICL). Calibrate and wrap RME received at the HPICL in accordance with procedures. Provide program support for Health Physics Services in areas of dosimetry, records, and air monitoring programs. Conduct contamination and radiation surveys in Radiological Buffer Areas, Controlled Areas, Radioactive Material Areas and non-controlled areas using standard survey techniques with portable contamination and radiation monitoring equipment. Conduct contamination and radiation surveys associated with radioactive material movements and transfers on-site and receipts from off-site. Provide facility support for dosimetry, calibration, and air monitoring programs. Audit personnel access to radiological areas. Source check portable survey instruments upon receipt from Calibrations Laboratory and again after use, utilizing approved procedures. All results will be documented for supervisor review and approval. Perform integrity and leak checks of radioactive sources. Provide administrative support to Radiological Protection Program in field offices and/or Health Physics Services. Examples of duties would include processing radiological work permit requests, issuing and controlling dosimetry inventory, maintaining radioactive source records, and preparing records for long-term storage.

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled in the Associate's Degree Program in Radiation Protection Technology at Aiken Technical College

Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Must successfully complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
