Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 0 years of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance must be obtainable at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a talented, UX-focused interaction designer. This position provides an opportunity to advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's premier defense and intelligence services and systems.

As a User Experience Designer, you will design intuitive solutions for the women and men that protect our country, impacting not just their ability to do their job, but their ability to save lives. As a member of the Human Systems Engineering team (HSE), you'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes designers, researchers, and engineers that create solutions that matter. Our work portfolio supports programs that operate on Land, Sea, Air, and Space. Expect to be challenged as no two days will be alike.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Translate complex concepts, research findings, and detailed requirements into well-articulated, elegant design solutions that meet customer vision and user needs
  • Collaborate regularly with researchers, developers and other stakeholders
  • Interview subject matter experts and users
  • Produce user personas, workflows/journey maps, and other artifacts relevant to early UX design
  • Create and maintain low to high-fidelity wireframes/prototypes across all design phases
  • Defend design decisions with compelling, research-based rationale
  • Create engaging reports and present to stakeholders
  • Apply usability design principles in all aspects of interaction and visual design
  • Identify creative alternatives when presented with barriers to progress
  • Design development-ready icons and graphics
  • Contribute to efforts focused on optimizing tasks, resources, and deliverables in support of projects/programs
  • Participate as an active project team member on challenging projects/programs
  • Travel minimally

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • Passion for UX and a desire to help others understand the importance of UX to ultimately make things better for users
  • A portfolio showing your design work and challenges you have overcome
  • Ability to make informed decisions with less-detailed direction from supervisor
  • Ability to communicate difficult findings to decision makers in a constructive matter
  • Strong understanding of and ability to apply fundamental interaction, design, and usability principles
  • Considerable communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience owning the design process from wireframes and concepts to final product
  • Strong ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback
  • Experience with cross-discipline communication
  • Expertise with wireframing tools like Axure, Figma, or Sketch
  • Expertise with Adobe CC (especially Illustrator/Photoshop)
  • Desire for a stable, long-lasting career with growth potential
  • Confidence and a "challenge accepted" attitude

WHAT SETS YOU APART:

  • 3+ years experience in UX or UI design AND a graduate degree in a related field
  • Expertise using Axure
  • Experience in planning/conducting user research
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Freehand drawing skills
  • General understanding of design systems, CSS, HTML


Target salary range: USD $97,754.00/Yr. - USD $105,772.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
