Project Accountant - DOT Focus

Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our Accounting team. This individual will play a key role in project billing and accounting processes, with a strong emphasis on Department of Transportation (DOT) billing for TX, MI, OH, and IN. Candidates with DOT billing experience are strongly preferred. Experience within the AEC industry is a plus. This position may be based in our Grand Rapids, MI; Farmington Hills, MI; or Toledo, OH office.
The ideal candidate will support project managers, ensure accurate and timely billing, assist with revenue recognition, and respond to project and client inquiries.
Primary Functions
* Manage and support DOT billing processes (TX, MI, OH, IN).
* Provide pre-billing information for project managers to review.
* Communicate with project managers on contract documents, change orders, and contract modifications.
* Provide accurate and timely billing, collection, cost accounting, and cost analysis.
* Meet with project managers and project staff to answer billing and collection questions.
* Prepare monthly billing reports for project managers.
* Provide year-end support for auditor requirements.
* Assist with project setup.
* Support project managers with collections.
* Facilitate job closeout.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment, visual acuity to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the phone. Accommodations may be made for otherwise qualified individuals.
Desired Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
Desired Skills/Experience
* 3+ years of professional experience as a project accountant or similar role.
* DOT billing experience strongly preferred (TX, MI, OH, IN).
* Experience in Deltek Vantagepoint.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
* AEC industry experience is a plus.
* Ability to prepare project budgets and financial forecasts.
* Experience in project invoicing and billing.
* In-depth knowledge of accounting best practices.
