General Purpose:

Responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of the Berkshire export logistics and transportation. Work across all transportation modes (truck, rail, ocean) with an emphasis on ocean freight and export logistics. The primary objectives and accountabilities of the role are operational excellence, on-time and in-full order fulfillment, lowest landed costs, and industry relationship management.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Berkshire export logistics
  • Oversee export logistics operational activities to ensure timely tenders, appointments, on-time delivery, and routing guide compliance
  • Provide input into export logistics (non-procurement) strategy
  • Own ocean export logistics relationships with appropriate third-party providers, specifically freight forwarder relationships for export lanes
  • Ensure GTM and SAP are updated timely with booking, sailing and arrival details
  • Develop key communication reports and processes for customers and manage key business metrics to influence continuous improvement and adherence to the process
  • Manage internal relationships to ensure clear lines of communication on the quoting, booking, sailing and KPI metrics of export logistics.
  • Benchmark existing logistics network to drive operational excellence and leverage suppliers to identify network efficiency opportunities
  • Approach execution with a major focus toward cost savings. Understanding that any logistics costs under what is quoted/contracted will yield additional margin to Berkshire
  • Complete freight quotes in a timely fashion and ensure they are actionable quotes that can be booked
  • Stay up to date on ocean logistics and transportation rules, regulations and industry trends
  • Manage logistics customer service issues, including effective problem resolution
  • Work to establish policies and systems to monitor transportation costs and efficiencies
  • Coordinate with carriers/freight companies to ensure proper handling
  • Manage air freight and parcel transportation if required by the customer
  • Report and analyze spend at a lane/carrier level, identifying areas of opportunity
  • Ensure that the appropriate freight cost accruals are recorded on the SAP shipments/deliveries
  • Work with carriers and third-party logistics (3PL's) on traffic flow/management issues. Regarding carriers, work through the DFA owner of export carrier relationships
  • Create and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
  • Mentor and provide guidance/assistance to less experienced team members

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience



  • Undergraduate degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • 8 or more years of transportation, distribution, logistics management, or related experience, including experience in ocean export logistics
  • Experience effectively leading and influencing key internal and external constituents
  • Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of company computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Superior knowledge of supply chain analytics, warehouse operations, and industry standards and methodologies
  • Skill in quantitative financial analysis techniques, including data manipulation
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to multi-task and problem solve
  • Able to consider both strategic and practical implications for proposed course of action
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Able to manage multiple various projects with sense of urgency
  • Able to effectively analyze and interpret data
  • Able to handle challenging or conflict situations with tact and professionalism
  • Able to elicit cooperation from variety of sources, including upper management, plant locations, and others
  • Able to work collaboratively with others and build consensus around key initiatives
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

5%-15% (1-3 times per year)
