Adjunct Faculty Position

The Medical Humanities program at DUCOM is an elective program that supports the development of intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual capacity of medical students and physicians, and fosters greater self-awareness, empathy, compassion and wisdom. As part of a scholarly field, medical humanities includes disciplines that address this human experience, such as:



  • Anthropology
  • Contemplative studies
  • Cultural studies
  • Ethics
  • Film
  • History and history of ideas
  • Literature
  • Music
  • Philosophy
  • Theater
  • Visual arts
  • Religious and spiritual thought
  • Sociology


Adjunct instructors in the DUCOM Medical Humanities program will develop and design curriculum for elective courses and facilitate instruction to medical students. Adjunct faculty are responsible for ensuring that students meet all learning outcomes. Candidates for this position should have:



  • Expertise in a humanities discipline


  • Excellent interpersonal and cultural competency skills and demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to create inclusive learning experiences that will help medical students to develop professionally, intellectually, and socially.
  • Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and practice inclusive pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated student-centered approach to teaching, and a commitment to student achievement.
  • Ability to assess student performance and learning.
  • Well-developed organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues.
