The Capital Markets Business Development Officer supports the MD, Capital Markets Officer by helping to develop and manage the Equipment Finance (EF) business within Apple Bank's Commercial Banking Division. The EF business operates within the approved Equipment Finance & Leasing Product Program and acts as a lender and lessor to middle market customers and large ticket companies providing secured financing utilized to primarily acquire equipment/fixed assets. Additionally, EF offers financing to other equipment lessors, secured by portfolios of fixed assets through a borrowing base structure. EF is also responsible for originating and servicing transactions on behalf of the Newton Joint Venture (JV) with Eagle Point Credit.

The individual in this position will be tasked with executing all aspects of the Capital Markets function within the EF business. Key duties include identifying and evaluating new business opportunities, overseeing the greenlight approval process, and managing pricing and structuring activities, in addition to supporting the Credit Team with underwriting tasks. Additional duties encompass conducting thorough due diligence, closing transactions, and monitoring lending and leasing arrangements initiated by other financial institutions that meet the criteria established under the approved Equipment Finance & Leasing Product Program or the investment prerequisites of the Newton JV. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for the syndication of transactions sold by EF to effectively manage exposure and enhance fee income for the Bank. All activities must comply with the Bank's risk parameters and adhere to established lending and leasing policies and procedures. The incumbent will also oversee syndication activities related to the Newton JV.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with bank and non-bank financial institutions, as well as emerging business sources such as brokers and advisors.
  • Initiate loans and leases in line with the Equipment Finance & Leasing Product Program and Newton JV investment criteria, while ensuring compliance with the Bank's and JV's risk appetite, policies, and procedures.
  • Initiate loan and leases.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective lending opportunities.
  • Foster and sustain strategic relationships with major banks and financial institutions.
  • Submit proposed lending deals to the Greenlight Committee for review.
  • Support the structuring, pricing, and underwriting processes for lease and loan transactions.
  • Close and fund deals according to the agreed-upon terms and conditions.
  • Syndicate transactions to manage EF and Newton exposures and generate fee income.
  • Advise Business Development Officers on various product solutions, alternatives, and strategies to attract new clients.
  • Keep abreast of developments and trends within the industry.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business or finance; master's degree a plus.
  • 10 + years of experience in corporate bank lending with extensive industry expertise, particularly within Equipment Finance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial structuring, advanced quantitative analysis, and exceptional leadership capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of structuring equipment finance and leasing transactions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of equipment finance and leasing accounting practices, including tax implications.
  • Proven ability to negotiate effectively, influence stakeholders, and foster collaboration.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibits a strong, long-term commitment to the institution's success.
  • Some travel may be required.
