Description

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Assist with conducting field surveys and data collection for rare, threatened, and endangered species in the northern Sierra and southern Cascade mountains.
  • Perform field surveys, habitat assessments and botany surveys. Field surveys will primarily include call-back surveys for raptors, nighttime surveys for owls, camera surveys, and amphibian surveys.
  • Collect data primarily using Survey123 and field maps.
  • Perform forestry duties when conditions are unfavorable for conducting wildlife surveys, including collecting continuous forest inventory plot data, marking timber for harvest, assisting with reforestation projects, and flagging property boundaries, watercourse protection zones, and other areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.


Required Skills and Abilities:



  • Ability to perform all required tasks independently.
  • Ability to identify the presence of wildlife populations.
  • Ability to keep detailed records.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform field-based work in all terrain and weather conditions in the northern Sierra and southern Cascade mountains.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle on unmaintained dirt roads.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Report.


Education and Experience:



  • An in-progress or completed associate or bachelor's degree or the equivalent experience in forestry, biology, natural resource management, agriculture sciences, or other closely related field.
  • Previous field experience preferred.


Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to uneven terrain, dust, noise, trip hazards, and extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, a face shield, and a respirator.

$21.00 -$22.00 per hour DOE
