The Opportunity

  • Driver Trainer at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company
  • Work with a cohesive team to serve a small community
  • Reporting to the Trucking Manager, plan, organize and direct a wide range of training activities for drivers. Conduct and supervise training and develop programs for drivers to improve and maintain safety standards, improve employees' skills, and build morale. Train drivers on company policies, procedures, Department of Transportation (DOT) and other governmental regulations. Perform periodic and annual check rides, Defensive Driver Training and assist with incident investigations with both Professional and Non-professional drivers assigned to company vehicles.
  • You'll also supervise the Dispatch Operations. Ensure operational efficiencies from the Dispatch Team such that customer orders are fulfilled, and account inventories are maintained appropriately.

Key activities include:

  • Provide training for New Driver Program, annual Driving Improvement Program (DIP) and other trainings as required.
  • Conduct interviews and road tests for driver recruiting
  • Train drivers on company policies/procedures, updates procedures and driver manuals as needed.
  • Maintain up to date training documentation.
  • Identify and address driver safety risk hazards. Participate in incident investigations to determine the cause of incident and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct risk assessments for deliveries to new customer sites.
  • Follow DOT and OSHA requirements with regard to driver's driving hours, training and others as needed. Maintains and checks compliance and accuracy of driver hours of service (HOS) and driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR) and related documents.
  • Ensure all drivers' documents are complete & current and annually verify that driver abstract files are maintained properly. Review driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR) on a daily basis and let the Trucking Manager know if a vehicle needs to be taken out of service due to a vehicle safety issue.
  • Periodically ride with and observe drivers (a) driving practices, and (b) adherence to procedures during pre/post trip inspections and during loading/unloading of product. Document recommendations and areas for improvement as appropriate.
  • Provides direction and supervisor to the Dispatch Team.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Dispatchers and Fuel Truck Drivers.
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude and be a team player.
  • Perform other duties as required and requested.

Qualifications

To meet the basic qualifications for employment, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. Additional qualifications include:

  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Technical training and/or college degree preferred
  • A clean driving abstract for the last five years.
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Type A with Hazmat and TX endorsements.
  • Meets all applicable DOT qualification requirements.
  • Maintain Smith System Trainer certification
  • Must be familiar with DOT requirements concerning transportation of hazardous materials, reporting requirements, record keeping requirements, etc.
  • Requires minimum 5 years of incident/accident free tanker (hazmat) driving experience on both Tractor/Trailer and Semi-trailer units.
  • Requires familiarity with personal computers and their operation.
  • At least three years of experience as professional truck driver in a Type A Vehicle.
  • At least three years of experience driving a manual transmission (on either a CDL A or B vehicle).
  • Petroleum or transporting liquids experience preferred.
  • General mechanical knowledge and skills.
  • Working knowledge of math is required. Must be able to perform routine mathematical calculations.
  • Must be available to work overtime as needed and be able to commit to DOT "Hours of Service" with Par Hawaii.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
  • Good communication skills, ability to work with deadlines, organizational ability and problem solving.
  • Ability to work in difficult conditions and with situations that involve customers, operations and emergencies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to communicate and effectively train staff.
  • Must possess the ability to guide, mentor and motivate drivers

Hiring Range:

The hiring range for this position is $42 - 52 per hour plus a discretionary bonus.
