We're seeking a dynamic Executive Director of Strategic Employee & Client Communications. This senior leader is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive internal communications strategy that effectively engages and inspires employees and stakeholders across Johns Hopkins Medicine.

This role will work closely with the Johns Hopkins Medicine leadership team to prioritize institutional messages and initiatives and will serve as a strategic advisor on all internal communications matters. This role is supported by directors and managers who are responsible for running the internal communications for the Baltimore based Johns Hopkins Medicine Internal Communications team as well as each Johns Hopkins Medicine hospital and business unit.

What You Bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications or related field, required. Masters preferred.
  • 10+ years of related/progressive experience in communications and change management including 5+ years of management experience with significant impact.
  • Healthcare or large organization setting experience is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience leading internal communications teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages that are clear, concise, and easy to understand.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven experience building and maintaining relationships will all levels of leadership and staff.
  • Including expertise in presentations, team facilitations, and ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Working knowledge of media relations best practices and strategies.
  • Track record of success partnering closely with executive and senior leadership and boards of trustees/directors.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive mindset and the ability to both operate at a high level and be hands-on.
  • Prior experience managing vendors and agencies; budget management experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching senior leaders on communications best practices.
  • Strong judgement, willingness to navigate ambiguity and a drive to seek continuous improvement.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans for employee engagement that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Key skills for this role include exceptional writing, creativity, strategic thinking, and proficiency with various communication technologies and software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other communication tools such as email marketing platforms and social media management tools.

Salary Range: Minimum 226,482.00/annually - Maximum 314,272.00/annually. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
