Overview

    Conduct laboratory research and development testing, prototype manufacturing, and production manufacturing of non-metallic materials for all classes of US Navy Submarines.
  • Work daily with plastics, elastomers, epoxies, adhesive systems, paint systems, rubbers, fiberglass, solvents, and other chemicals.
  • Formulate, mold, and cast non-metallic materials for multiple applications.
  • Follow and execute written Laboratory requests, work instructions, and testing documents.
  • Operate various laboratory equipment including curing ovens, vacuum pumps, water baths, processors, batch mixers, standard power tools, etc.
  • Operate standard sand blasting, paint spraying, and powder coating equipment.
  • Conduct analytical testing using hardness gauges, viscometers, balances, pH meters, mil thickness gauges, dynamic test machines, etc.
  • Work daily with other technicians and Laboratory Engineers.
  • Maintain a written Laboratory Log Book containing all supporting documentation and test data required for each assignment.
  • Support urgent shipyard construction activities, including on-hull specialty non-metallic component repairs and testing.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • 1+ years of experience in laboratory research and development testing, prototype manufacturing, and/or production manufacturing environment

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Chemical / Mechanical / Materials
  • Prior experience working with standard laboratory and manufacturing equipment


Skills

  • Chemistry knowledge
  • Basic Microsoft Office product knowledge
  • Basic cutting and machining knowledge
  • Experience working with measurement tools

Color Vision, Medium Lifting, Pulling, Pushing
