The WEX Summer Internship Program: Learn, Lead, and Make an Impact
Our 13-week paid internship program, running from late May to mid-August, is a chance for you to gain real-world experience and develop your skills. Recruiting begins in January and continues through March at our various locations across the U.S.

You won't just be a bystander; you'll work on impactful projects and contribute to WEX's mission. About the Team/Role:

The Risk Solutions group designs, deploys, and maintains machine learning and artificial intelligence models, and we are a key function to enable WEX's strategic objectives. The team uses advanced methodologies, a wide range of data types, and modern technologies to identify and manage credit risk, protect our clients from fraud, and help assist the business through predictive insights. As such, you will not only be working with cutting-edge techniques for machine learning and artificial intelligence, you will also support important real-world applications to drive predictive insights for decision-making.

You are a motivated and curious individual with a passion for data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. You enjoy learning new things, diving into complex problems, using data tools, code, and algorithms to apply. You enjoy working as a part of a team with partners that openly share perspectives.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Learn side-by-side from experienced data scientists to mentor and guide you through hands-on projects.

  • Understand applications of data science and machine learning in the domains of fintech and financial services.

  • Build code to extract data, test and train machine learning models, and assess model performance.

  • Learn emerging trends in machine learning and identify opportunities for their applications.

  • Synthesize findings into actionable insights and tailor conclusions to stakeholders of various backgrounds.

  • Understand how machine learning projects are managed to drive a clear path to production and measurable impact.

Experience You'll Bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program or a rising senior in a Bachelor's program in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or other related domain.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong foundational knowledge of Python for data science and analytics through hands-on projects in coursework or self-study.

  • Understanding of common machine learning approaches in regression and classification, as well as common performance diagnostics.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Adaptable and comfortable working collaboratively and independently.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
