The Manager, Software Engineering manages the activities of a software applications development function for new products or enhancements and defect resolution. Products may be custom developed and/or purchased.

This is a remote position and candidates must live within approximately a 70-mile radius of our office location in Allen, TX; You will be required to go onsite once per month for leadership meetings.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Oversees the definition and documentation of business and technical design requirements. Oversees the preparation of design specifications, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Ensures all projects are delivered on time, within budget and within a high level of corporate quality standards.
  • Performs continuous review of technologies, industry standards, and industry-related developments and makes recommendations relative to the need for further research and associated changes.
  • Coordinates work and services with other IS departments, contract service providers, and vendors.
  • Provides consistent leadership to each individual; sets objectives; reviews performance, produces career development plans, and addresses concerns.
  • Serves on Product Review Committees, Technology Review Committees, and/or other committees, as required.
  • Plans and leads the development of new software products and/or enhancements.
  • Oversees the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of software solutions. Ensures all software solutions and enhancements are fully tested, debugged, and meet product quality standards before releasing to QA.
  • Ensures technology solutions support the needs of the customer and/or organization. Creates or helps create product roadmaps.
  • May serve as an expert on software architecture and programming principles.
  • May perform other job duties as assigned.

What you'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree required; business, software engineering, or computer science degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of programming experience with web technologies using Angular, C#, .NET and SQL
  • Previous leadership experience required.

What would be nice for you to have:

  • Oversees the daily department or function operations, including budget development and management. May manage, through subordinate supervisor(s), the activities of a department with responsibility for results including cost management, efficient departmental structure, workflow planning, and staffing. Oversees staff training, development, and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and programs. Ensures staff adherence to company policy and governmental regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the software industry, software development lifecycle, and programming standards.
  • Excellent speaking and writing abilities.
  • Proficient in object-oriented design and development using software development best practices, including software development life cycles, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Deep understanding of SOLID design principals and patterns
  • Practical experience with technologies and systems such as HTTP, REST APIs, Distributed Systems, Services, Messaging, Queues, Caching, SQL databases, Angular web applications, and JavaScript
  • Practical experience with logging, performance metrics, debugging, optimization, and defect resolution, as well as testing and security
  • Knowledge of data types, data structures, datasets, data access, and software design patterns
  • Experience with cloud environments (e.g. Azure, GCP) and open-source tools and scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash)
  • Ability to apply company policies and procedures to resolve issues.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities as needed.
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and handle multiple and complex projects.
  • Ability to coach and mentor employees, providing career and professional guidance
