Step into a role where your attention to detail and strong organizational skills truly make a difference. The Department of Transportation is seeking motivated candidates for the position of Driver License Examiner. In this role, you will directly support highway safety by administering standardized tests that evaluate the skills of both commercial and non-commercial driver license applicants. You will also assist customers at the Driver License Center by verifying identity documents, helping prevent identity theft and fraud. If you are ready to advance your career while contributing to safer roads across the Commonwealth, we encourage you to apply.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Driver License Examiner, you will assess applicants' physical and driving qualifications and inspect vehicles to ensure they meet required safety standards. Your duties will include administering vision screenings-such as telebinocular and color-perception tests-and conducting knowledge exams for both commercial and non-commercial applicants to confirm their understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs. You will also perform pre-trip inspections, skills tests, and on-road driving evaluations for non-commercial licenses in accordance with departmental procedures.

Your responsibilities extend to reviewing applications and permits for inconsistencies or potential fraud, evaluating vehicles for appropriate testing characteristics, and confirming that all required safety features are present. You will verify the authenticity of identity documents and use available databases to confirm applicant information. Establishing each applicant's identity and eligibility is essential to preventing fraud and ensuring the integrity of the licensing process.

Finally, you will process test results and applications, issue driver licenses and identification cards to qualified individuals, and provide guidance on renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licensing, and commercial driver requirements.
