Position Summary The Sr. Automation/Robotics Maintenance Technician completes complex preventative, proactive, and predictive maintenance, in-depth troubleshooting, and repair of automated material handling, robotic, & custom automated machinery. Will utilize prescribed processes as they relate to mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls, robotics, welding/fabrication, and other facilities related systems. Responsibilities * Under minimal supervision, provides preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of material handling systems through demonstrated proficiency in mechanical power transmission and electrical with working knowledge of PLC/controls/Robotics as well as general mechanical skills, repair welding, and industrial equipment rebuilds. * Adheres to all applicable safety standards and promotes a safe work environment by attending safety meetings and required trainings and addressing all safety concerns. * Will interpret electrical or mechanical schematics, manufacturer's manuals and engineering specifications to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair system faults and failures or determine escalation. * Responds to production line calls to troubleshoot system issues, diagnose problems and make repairs. * Ability to utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) software to enter and retrieve prescribed data. * Complex skills required in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and/or PLC/controls/robot failures. * May rely on higher level Technicians and Engineers in complex systems issues. * Prefer ability to read PLC ladder logic and SCADA structure. * Prefer ability to coach & assist lower-level technicians. * Prefer ability to write work instructions and maintenance SOPs as needed to document new procedures and maintenance/repair methodologies. * Prefer fundamental project leadership skills to develop scopes of work and project plans for small scale projects to be executed at a local level. * May be required to work a flexible schedule including all days and shifts as the business need dictates. * Performs other duties as assigned. Personal Attributes and Experience * High School Diploma or GED required * Certificates and/or Diplomas in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics, Robotics, Control Integration, Industrial Electrical or Mechanical trade or related area. * An associate degree in a related area is preferred. * Ten (10) years' experience in Industrial Maintenance with proficiency in knowledge and demonstrated skills in mechanical power transmission, electrical and working knowledge of PLC/Controls/Robotics and welding/fabrication skills through job experience, related military experience and/or related education required. * High degree of proficiency in troubleshooting and determining root-cause of issues on large scale automated systems. * Acquired certificates and degrees may be assessed by manager and HR to determine relevancy to minimum qualifications and experience. Skills and Abilities * Mechanical o Able to apply general mechanical knowledge/abilities. o Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical system failures, which may include understanding of engineering concepts. o Understand power transmission concepts, such as gear ratios, service factor, horsepower and frame size to repair/replace a failed gearbox and/or motor when the correct replacement parts are not available o Understand mechanical design concepts to be able to replace failed pulleys and bearings with replacements that don't match design without impacting performance of a conveyor (speed, torque, etc.) o Can read, interpret and create or modify mechanical drawings o Able to use mechanical measuring devices and complex testing equipment (thermal and chemical meters). * Electrical / PLC / Controls / Robotics o Ability to interpret electrical or mechanical schematics, manufacturer's manuals and engineering specifications to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair system faults and failures or determine escalation o Use a digital multimeter to resistance test de-energized circuits. o Troubleshoot and diagnose both the power and the control branch of motor controls circuits. o Read, interpret and create or modify electrical drawings/schematics. o Familiarity with a range of robot platforms including ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, etc... o Go online with PLC processors to aid in troubleshooting. o Understand PLC networks, such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, Wonderware/Aveva, Ignition, etc. * Welding or Fabrication o Repair broken components where factors such as position or load may impact the repair, such as motor mounting plates or conveyor legs. o Use vertical mill/drill and other machining tools o MIG, stick and TIG weld in all positions. o Understand difference between structural and non-structural welds and how to apply them on machinery and equipment. * Facilities & Building Systems o High level troubleshooting of issues with building electro-mechanical systems, HVAC, plumbing, gas, electrical services. o Monitor actions of outside HVAC, plumbing, gas, and electrical services contractors as needed to ensure tasks are thorough and safely executed. o Perform other duties as requested by plant management. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
