Associate or Professor of Clinical Psychiatry - Chief of the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Health Institute

Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) seek to recruit an accomplished physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, Co-Director of CHLA's Behavioral Health Institute (BHI), and the Las Madrinas Endowed Chair in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. The Chief will oversee the division's clinical care, research, and education programs, service missions, strategic planning, faculty recruitment, program development, faculty and fellow mentoring, and budgetary affairs

The Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is nationally recognized for excellence in clinical care, education, and research and serves as one of the four core pillars of the Behavioral Health Institute: Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Social Work. The Division is ranked among the top in the nation as a subspecialty on the U.S. News & World Report annual list for 2025-2026.

The Division Chief reports to Alan S. Wayne, MD, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, Keck School of Medicine of USC (Keck SOM) and works closely with the other Pediatric Division Chiefs. As a member of the BHI leadership team, the Chief will work closely with the other Co-Directors: the Chief of the Division of Psychiatry, the Director of Psychology, and the Director of Social Work. The position includes an academic appointment with the Keck SOM at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience. Applicants are required to have an MD or MD/PhD or comparable degree as well as outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research. They must also be board-certified in both developmental-behavioral pediatrics and general pediatrics.

The Division plays a critical role in shaping system-wide behavioral health strategy and works closely with early intervention providers, community agencies, and school systems to ensure coordinated developmental, behavioral, and educational support for children and families. It currently includes 8 full-time faculty, 2 advanced practice providers, 1 part-time provider, and 12 staff members. There are 5 fellows in the division's three-year, ACGME-accredited training program that has earned grant funding through the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The Division also plays a central role in CHLA's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Center including specialized autism assessment services provided through the Boone Fetter Clinic. This Center offers comprehensive diagnoses and follow-up care for children and adolescents who have issues with neurodevelopment, behavior, attention, sensory processing, feeding difficulties and social-emotional development. The Community Behavioral Health Program, a Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health funded multidisciplinary outpatient program, delivers developmentally tailored services. The Division also partners with the Stein Tikun Olam Early Connections Program, which supports CHLA's youngest patients and their families by promoting early family relationships. In collaboration with the Fetal and Neonatal Institute, the Division participates in the Newborn Follow-Up Program, providing longitudinal developmental, behavioral, and growth monitoring for infants at high risk due to medical complexity or neonatal intensive care unit hospitalization.

The annual base salary range for this position is $309,500-$333,784.
