Shift Supervisor

PURPOSE:


The Shift Supervisor is the leader of the Shift Organization and has the responsibility for the safe, environmentally sound, PSM compliant, reliable and economic operations of the refinery. All operators in the facility have direct accountability to the Shift Supervisor on site. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager.



KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Drives Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
  • Conducts routine crew safety and communication meetings
  • Ensures housekeeping standards/assignments are met
  • Reviews and executes area safety and environmental audits
  • Conducts initial investigations of near misses, incidents and spills
  • Completes daily shift report in a timely manner
  • Communicates operating plans/strategies to shift organization through night orders
  • Identifies and develops short and long term capital projects
  • Maintains staffing for shift employees, calling out employees following the CBA and other procedures
  • Maintains daily attendance records for employees and provides to Human Resources
  • Participates in HAZOP (hazardous operations) reviews, discipline meetings, and other meetings and training as required
  • Ensures alignment with Area Managers on all strategy and personnel issues
  • Maintains expertise and acts as first responder to critical issues in the area, ensuring that management is aware as appropriate
  • Monitors field operations, ensuring that operators have the tools they need and are accomplishing their tasks as directed
  • Serves as an example, follows the Safety Pledge, Cardinal Rules and other policies and procedures
  • Mentors employees in their shift duties e.g. policies and procedures knowledge, emergency procedures, process optimization, expense control, etc.
  • Participates in performance and coaching activities for individual employees on shift.



REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:



  • 7-10+ Years Refinery Operations Experience
  • Prefer previous shift supervision in a step-up role
  • HS Diploma, GED or Degree in Related Field

  • Must exhibit effective team skills
  • Capable of working with all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to work through multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively
