BB&E is an employee-owned, full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to the Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is seeking a Structural Engineer to provide technical design support for mission-critical requirements associated with ongoing and future infrastructure and facility projects at USSS-protected sites throughout the continental United States (CONUS). The engineer will provide specialized engineering support services, including technical planning, coordination, and oversight of engineering activities to ensure the seamless integration of protective equipment, materials, and infrastructure into ongoing and future projects. This role will be on-site in Washington, DC
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary architecture/engineering/construction teams, third-party contractors, and other government agencies to advance the USSS protective mission.
- Utilize drawings, specifications, photographs, and other information to support projects to assess and improve site and building security.
- Review and provide comments on deliverables for analysis, design, and construction projects, including drawings, specifications, technical reports, and other related documentation, to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and USSS objectives.
- Coordinate with program managers to develop, maintain, and update the program's strategy, budgeting, scheduling, and planning documents, as well as documentation of meetings and past activities.
- Engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, third-party contractors, and other government agencies to plan and execute design and construction projects.
- Coordinate with program managers to develop Scopes of Work and prepare Task Order packages for future acquisitions
Requirements
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required; Must possess a valid TOP Secret Security clearance
- Experience with blast effect modeling tools is preferred, e.g., Vulnerability Assessment and Protection Option (VAPO), 3d Blast, Urban Blast Tool, Extreme Loading for Structures (ELS).
- Demonstrated experience with reviewing and understanding construction drawings, construction specifications, and Task Order documents.
- Experience working on large construction projects and interfacing with contractors, subcontractors, design team members, and owner's representatives
- Experience managing structural design projects for buildings, including work with protective design and anti-terrorism/force protection (ATFP) requirements.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local codes and regulations related to building and structural design.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present design concepts and findings effectively.
Experience & Education
- Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required; Masters preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience managing structural design projects for buildings, including work with protective design and anti-terrorism/force protection (ATFP) requirements.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
- Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone.
