Job Description

The College of Arts & Science is accepting applications for a dedicated and student-focused advising coordinator for math and science majors. This position provides advanced academic advising, supervises professional and peer advising staff, and plays a key role in coordinating academic advising across eight different majors. The position works collaboratively with faculty, department and College leadership, and campus partners to support student success, program implementation, and continuous improvement of advising services.

Student Advising & Support Services

  • Develop, in coordination with advising leadership in Arts and Science, and implement comprehensive academic advising and student support services for undergraduate students.
  • Maintain an individual advising caseload, providing academic guidance, degree planning, and referrals to appropriate campus resources.
  • Serve as a resource for complex student cases and advising issues requiring advanced knowledge of academic policies and procedures.
  • Support new student advising initiatives, including onboarding and transition advising.

Supervision & Coordination of Staff

  • Provide direct supervision, training, and ongoing support for a team of five academic advisors.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development of advising and peer support staff.
  • Promote consistent, high-quality advising practices across the unit.

Program & Academic Coordination

  • Coordinate advising services for new and evolving academic programs, working closely with faculty and academic leadership to ensure accurate, effective, and consistent advising support.
  • Serve as a key member of the team supporting academic program transitions and organizational changes, with a focus on student advising continuity and service delivery.
  • Assist with planning and implementing advising support for new student populations as programs are introduced or restructured.
  • Support alignment of advising processes, communication, and documentation during periods of academic or organizational transition.
  • Collaborate with department leadership, faculty, and campus partners to ensure advising practices align with curricular requirements and institutional policies.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of advising processes, procedures, and service delivery models.
  • Support data collection, reporting, and assessment efforts related to advising and student outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, FERPA, and established advising standards.
  • Participate in committees, meetings, and initiatives related to student services and academic support.
Shift

Generally, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication, organizational skills, and the ability to learn various platforms to support advising functions
  • Experience advising students in STEM or science-based academic programs.
  • Experience in supervision or having a lead role on a peer team.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,915.20 - 68,000 annually

Grade: GGS - 010
